Today’s “Sunday Morning on CBS” was one of the best I’ve seen, despite Bill Geist’s weak (in comparison to usual) segment. The theme of today’s show was ‘the new season’. Their theme coincides well with my new design scheme, so I thought I’d share some of the highlights for those of you who didn’t follow orders and watch the show.

In fashion, the 40’s are back. Conservative, waist-fitted styles are the thing. High-waisted skirts, tucked in shirts, and textured fabrics like tweed further define the new style. It’s all reminiscent of the Audrey Hepburn days. I’m very excited. I think the 40s was the highlight of class and sophistication, and I wouldn’t mind if a bit more outside of fashion trickled into society from that decade. I haven’t seen anything on men’s fashion, but I have high hopes that the Frank Sinatra/rat pack look is back, especially the hats. I’ve been praying for this era’s revival for ages. I am a bit reluctant to give up low-rise jeans, though, but since when do I let trends dictate my wardrobe? ha, I already started the tucked in shirt, though. I’m always just a step ahead of the times. Yeah, that’s what I call it.

Sunday morning also highlighted upcoming films and albums. There are some wonderful films on the horizon. A few of them have actually already opened. Kevin Spacey in Beyond the Sea, the story of Bobby Darin; Angelina Jolie in Sky Captain (I think this will be a great big-screen film); Tom Hanks in The Polar Express, and it seems that Jude Law is featured in 6 of the fall films. I love Tom Hanks and Kevin Spacey. In keeping with the talk of class, these 2 men emanate that style both on and off screen.

Music holds the biggest treasures, though. The 1985 Live Aid concert is being released on DVD! U2, Queen, David Bowie, and Neil Young are just a few whose performances will be featured. No CDs or anything of these performances have been previously released. It’s a must-have. It’s the show where the world met U2. Look for that in November, I think. Also, John Fogerty of CCR is releasing another solo album which should be great. There was also some up-and-comer whose name has completely escaped me. It’s said that he is what John Lennon would have been, had he lived longer. Oh yeah, John Lennon acoustic is also being released. I always preferred Lennon to McCartney.

On a final note, Millennium Park in Chicago finally opened, 4 years after the planned launch date. It looks amazing. The art & architecture presented are just breathtaking. My favorite is shown in the picture. It perfectly reflects the Chicago skyline down to ground level. It’s beautiful. I would love to see a concert there, but it likely won’t happen this season.
