The Last Waltz

I spent most of yesterday in Carmel. I dropped Lily off at her new home with Adam & Gary. (Haven’t cried yet…because I’m lying to myself about it.) I think she’ll be very happy there though. They already had a slue of things purchased for her. She will be spoiled. Still waiting on test results for Snippy. She has Cushing’s. We just don’t know which kind yet.
After that, I did a bit of shopping, which normally stresses me out, but somehow managed to go surprisingly well. I think I may have made friends with the girls at New York & Company. I’d swear that every retail employee must have just gone through corporate training. Even at Target, I was asked if I needed help in every department. A man stocking started a convo up around travel mugs. I was almost overwhelmed by everyone’s willingness to help me. A guy in electronics was out of breath because he literally ran in to my aisle to see if I needed help. I wanted to say “Easy, killer.”
Aside from shopping, the rest of my stay was pretty much Tyler Bender bonding time. He had a show at Radio Radio last night, so I’d bought some new clothes to wear that night. I made him help me pick. I had to look good. All the cute artsy boys live around Fountain Square. But yeah, it was an incredible night. I got to the venue early with Tyler and helped him carry in equipment. As we were doing so, I was like “Wow, I feel like such a groupie. This is awesome!” I love learning how things work so seeing the setup process and hearing the terminology being tossed around was super interesting for me. The cooler part is that this venue is definitely my favorite in Indy but I rarely made it down there for shows, so I made up for lost time by hanging out there with it empty and talking to the owner, David, who was a very cool dude. He’s in the Zero Boys and owns a few other places around town. Turns out he lived in SF back in the 80s so we definitely had stuff to talk about. They paid $1,600/mo for a 3 bd apartment back then. If only.

Katie & Erin showed up, too, which was a pleasant surprise. I’ve become better friends with them since I moved away, which seems weird. I also made a new friend, Laura, who likely thinks I’m a drunk ass. I didn’t have dinner, so 4 vodka tonics was a super bad idea. It certainly spurred some interesting conversations. I don’t have much of a filter sober, so you can only imagine the honesty that rolled out. It’s safe to assume I offended at least 5 people unknowingly. But it was nice to cut loose and have some fun. It’s not something I often do, so I’m allowed to indulge once in awhile. Tyler’s parents were there and for his dad’s birthday, he had him join him on stage for “Ain’t No Sunshine.” It was good times! I tried to record it but I think my battery died mid-song. Tyler should have the videos up on Facebook soon though. See Show Photos
So after the show, the lead singer of the other band came up to me and was like “Hey, your man is super talented. He’s got some good stuff going on.” Now, rather than correcting the obvious misunderstanding, I just said “Oh yeah, he’s great. He wrote all those songs, too.” It’s safe to say that every girl has her fantasy of dating a rockstar, so hey, if he thought I was cute enough to have been his g/f, I wasn’t gonna let him think otherwise. And, he could probably care less what relation I am to him, the important thing was to back-up his positive opinion of Tyler. Of course, when I ran the story by Tyler, he was like “You didn’t correct him!?!” I just shrugged and we had a good laugh. Details.

So I crashed on Tyler’s couch again and the couch is right outside his bedroom door. Well, the next morning I had the faintest memory of waving to him in the middle of the night. Turns out, he got up about 2 hours after we crashed and when he walked out, he said I was just staring up at him and it scared the crap out of him. And yes, apparently I waved and said “hello”. He thought I was still trying to fall asleep, but I’m certain I immediately passed out as I have no recollection of anything else. It was amusing nevertheless. I still claim it was my keen super human hearing that heard the door handle turn.
So the next morning, I hung out for a bit while Tyler was getting ready for work. I learned something very important. It seems that dark socks get smellier than white socks because of the dye or something. I have no idea if this is a scientific fact or if this is something Tyler has just observed in his personal experience, but to be honest, it’s something I’ve never thought about.

So yeah, I got home to help my mom with the yard sale only for her not to need my help at all, so I should have stuck around Indy for another night. Oh well now.
I had a super fun 2 days though, so no regrets. Tyler & Adam…the boys just always have my back. I shall miss them along with my other wonderful friends from Indy.
And with that, I heard today that my temp housing is ready and so Adam & I shall set out on our drive early May 10 and arrive in SF May 14. I’m crossing my fingers for nice weather.
One last item to note is that my friend in Reno is the anonymous conqueror of the Big MacChicken. Read the story/see the photos. I have gathered myself an interesting group of friends over the years, eh? :)
PS I’m too tired and lazy to resize the photos in MS Paint, since that is the only program I have available right now. Deal with it :)
