Saturday I decided I was going to buy my iPhone. So I walked the 4 blocks to the Apple store, where as expected, I was greeted by great service. I was shuttled over to a lovely hipster-looking boy. He let out a “no way!” when I broke out my Indiana ID. Turns out, he hails from Kentucky. We had an AT&T lady give us some trouble, but another lovely boy came over and poured on some major sweet talk. The other guy and I were laughing at everything he was saying. It was straight out of a textbook. Hilarious. It was a very fun start to the day!
It was a busy day, so I was really late making it over for Andrew’s birthday party. I got there just in time for a little conversation before piling in to our Super Shuttle to go to Do Re Mi in Japantown for some karaoke.
It was another delightful van trip. We had a little UB40 - Strawberry Wine action. Sadly, a monkey never got shot, but one did get choked.
Karaoke was an experience—25 or so people packed in to a little room, belting out their best tone deaf voices (there were exceptions). It was hilarious. We sang Gangster’s Paradise & Bohemian Rhapsody. Yay!
It was a good time. I feel like I’m finally finding my place in the group.
Today, I finally got a mattress. I couldn’t find a truck to rent or anyone to help me carry it up to my apartment. I posted my needs on craig’s list, offering $30. I got a reply in 15 minutes. It worked out beautifully. Larry showed up promptly, loaded my mattress in to the back of his van and shuttled both of us up to my apartment, where he helped me maneuver it up my stairs. And I got some awesome SF history during the trip. He was a cool guy, and told me to keep his number in case I ever need a trip to the airport or some of us need a ride somewhere late at night.
It all worked out. Sweet. My mom was surprisingly not bothered by the whole idea of this plan, but when I called to let her know that I survived it (secretly knowing a part of her was worried), I found out that my dad had been freaking out for the past hour, assuming I had lost my mind, all for nothing. So if you ever need some stuff moved in a van, Larry is the man. I can hook you up.
I cannot believe the weekend is nearly over. I have many shows to catch up on and some sleep. I have to grill up my jerk chicken tonight so I can have food for the rest of the week though. I tried a new recipe for salmon potato cakes, but I didn’t like them at all. I think part of my disappointment was due to expecting a taste similar to crab cakes. No such luck. Fun to experiment though.
And that’s it. I’m excited about my closer to real bed tonight! I should be able to turn over without scooting it around. How exciting.
