The Infamous Holiday Party

Holiday parties in the advertising industry carry a certain reputation. I’ve heard the stories and seen the photos. I had some very clear expectations for what the night would hold. I had to work late, so I arrived 3 hours in to the evening. Everyone was plenty “happy” by this point, which at least eliminated any lingering anxiety I had about my dress making me look like a slut. Like always there is little evidence of all my hard work getting dressed up. In fact, there is exactly one photo…me & HR. You can’t see my smokin’ dress, though. The perk of being a person who rarely dresses up is that I get to be the surprise at the fancy events. “She can fancy herself up real nice.”
But it was fun. I love Cafe du Nord. I only had one guy ask me to father his children, another to go home with him (and apologized for it the next day, blaming it on the dress), yet a third who followed me while I ignored him, and a fourth who liked telling me I was beautiful every other sentence which was fine by me because he was cute! If it hadn’t been for guy #3 awkwardly lingering, I might have been able to ask cute boy out. So it goes :) It wasn’t as much drama as I was hoping for, but enough to let me feel like I had a genuine corporate party experience. Though, 75% of my evening was at Lucky Thirteen next door, since our venue closed down not long after I arrived.
Our company holiday card is really cool and I wish I could link to it cuz their are photos from the party, but it’s not officially out yet, so you must wait.
But it’s nearly 9pm, so I should finish remaining packing things and prepare for my 4am wake-up call :( I’ll report back when I arrive home and have my “ah get me away from my family” moment 3 hours later. My family doesn’t read this, so I can safely say that I’m just slightly more anxious to see the family pets…
