The Fun Nearly Killed Me…Seriously

I drove down to Louisville (louivul) Friday after work. I enjoyed the presence of hills along the drive but seriously, could 65 get any straighter or more boring? I couldn’t even pull off and take photos along the way. I finally got to see the red bridge in Columbus, though so that was exciting. Passing by the North Vernon exit, I thought of my farmer buddy (#11) that I’d lost touch with. I stopped off in New Albany, where I dined at the loveliest McD’s. Minus the “M”, it could totally pass as a coffee shop with the decor and such. I giggled when I went by Jeffersonville as I thought, “Hi, I’m Jeff from Jeffersonville” I’d use my last name too.
Anyway, going over “the bridge” was really exciting. They give you absolutely no cushion room between the lane and the big cement wall so trying to look out over the water was a bit of a challenge. I finally got to Carrie’s apt, which was in the nicest part of town. It was just solid trees everywhere and huge Victorian homes. I hate driving because I like to be the one looking everywhere.
We checked out Comedy Caravan that night. It was really expensive and the comics were beyond horrible. Headliner at least made us laugh but by the end he was talking about his sex life. And well, since the guy was 60ish, that just wasn’t cool. Highlight of my night was remembering to try gin & tonic.

We went downtown the next day to check out the Louisville Slugger museum. You might have guessed from the photo heh. I was too lazy to cross the road for a better pic. Anyway, we took the factory tour, which was interesting to some extent, but even better, it set the scene for the most exciting story of the trip. ahem…listen up
We were over halfway through the tour. Carrie had just said how hot it was, but actually, I wasn’t feeling that warm at all. As we walked a bit further, my stomach randomly started to hurt. Further still and I thought I was gonna be sick. A bit further and I feel a little dizzy. trigger “uh-oh” We’re at the back of the group so I tell Carrie I need to sit for a minute.
Well, by then, I’m fully aware what’s going to happen to me, so I start scouring my purse for sugar. Of course, my mints are sugar-free. I walk a lil further and see some employee standing off to the side for no apparent reason, and I calmly walk up and say “excuse me sir, is there a place I could sit? I’m feeling a bit faint.” He rolls me over a chair. I have to steady myself on a table while I wait…anytime now. I sit down. Carrie is sort of freaking out and asks what to do. I hand her my camera, and say, “just don’t let me hit my head.” Our tour group has kept going, guide completely oblivious to leaving us behind. The nicest couple in the world leaves the tour and comes back to where we are. The wife says “I have a mint. Do you want it?” i was like “Not right now. I’m gonna be out any sec.” Sure enough, moments later I passed out. I had a full dream that I can’t quite remember. I know I was in a car with Carrie leaving the place. I slowly came to to the sound of “Mindy…Mindy…” I was confused. It felt as if what I woke up to was the dream. It was the identical dream type and feeling I had last time this happened.
Carrie told me I just slouched down in my chair and shook a lil bit, which I completely forgot to warn her about that part. so the lady quickly gives me that mint and says “It’s sort of soft, just chew it.” The employee guy brings me back an almond Hershey’s bar, which I quickly consumed. Of course, as soon as I woke up, I felt fantastic, so the food was just a perk. It’s funny how that works…body just has to shutdown for a few seconds to recharge. It felt like a full night’s sleep.
So that was the exciting drama for the trip. What’s funny is later Carrie said, “I fear the people thought we were a ‘couple’ because i said, ‘oh no, it must have been my cooking this morning.’” haha yeah she’d made me biscuits & gravy for breakfast just a couple hours earlier. So I guess I’m gonna have to go back to keeping sugar in my purse. Last time this happened (4 years ago), the EMT told me a single Lifesaver will get my blood sugar normalized. The heat seems to be the breaker factor though. Mom says I should carry Gatorade instead of water, because I need the electrolytes.
Anyway, after that we walked down to Fourth Street, which is apparently all brand new. On the way, we saw a decorated horse, much like the current frogs in West Lafayette. There are lots of restaurants, bars, and places to hang out. I would have liked to have gone back in the evening, as you can walk around outside with your “beverages” and such, but we went to a different bar. There’s a bowling alley on the street too that is so nice that reservations are needed. Carrie took me for a driving tour of Bellarmine University, her Alma Mater, after that. The entire campus was on the side of a hill. All the classrooms & the cafeteria were uphill from the dorms. The big joke is that you never see fat freshmen.
We crashed that afternoon, and headed out to O’Shea’s for the evening after 11. The atmosphere there was really nice. It was all open air with some fountains and Christmas lights. I had my first red bull drink…something with raspberry vodka I think. It was tasty, and I definitely didn’t get tired after having 2 of those. Most fun of the night was the 30 min we spent a karaoke bar called Akiko’s. There was a wedding party there…bride in her dress and all her friends in their best punk gear. It was good times. I would have liked to have stayed there longer.
So overall, it was nice to catch some new scenery but it really wasn’t as adventurous as I would have liked. It was just too hot to have any energy for exploring. It was nice to spend time with Carrie though. We got all caught up.
P.S. My meeting with the pres on Friday went really well. I love that man. He totally speaks my language…complete blunt honesty. We tell each other what we do & don’t need/want and things just work out really quickly. We cut the meeting short and are gonna continue it with photo guy Wednesday. Hopefully, it’s just as bullshit free. Oh, and I checked out a house before work Friday and it has serious promise…assuming it’s not sold by the time I’m a more serious shopper. Still more i need to check out, though.
