UPDATE I had flowers blooming in the yard so I had to share a pic. I lucked in to some insects showing up as well. They should all be full bloom next week.

I’m sure my dad loves me broadcasting his age. haha. Yeah, so my dad is the umm strong, silent type (except when he’s pissed of course)...typical farmer man I guess. Well, today is his 50th birthday, and he’s been dreading it a bit. Anyway, I called him this morning, and I thought I’d share our enjoyable conversation:

D: HELLO (he is so loud on the phone)

M: *breaks into song* Happy Birthday to YOU!!!

D: oh god

M: So how’s it feel to be 50? Do you feel any smarter?

D: no. god, 50…I didn’t think I’d make it

M: We didn’t either dad, but you hung in there *random roommate/job talk*

M: Well dad, I hope you have a LOVELY birthday and a LOVELY day

D: Ok. Thank you. All I’m gonna be doing is work

M: well work is fun, right?

D: Hah right! Well thanks for calling

You really can’t fully appreciate the humor of the conversation without knowing my dad. He & I aren’t ones for umm “caring” talk, so when we talk about such things I overcompensate by being really dramatic, so it’s more humorous than sweet talk. heh and dad responds well to that. haha I completely embarrass him every year when I call. He was really impressed last year when i called at 7:15am. He was like “why the hell are you up so early??” and I said I was training to be a farmer. heheh

I called my mom to tell her about our little conversation, and she was cracking up (see because she knows him and all). I told her it definitely added a little skip to his step for the day. Oh yeah, when mom got back from Europe, dad said he had a really good time with we kids home for the week, and that we treat him differently without mom around. See, I knew dad would appreciate us eventually.

Well, back to my work, which I’m kicking ass and taking names on. Yay, go me.
