My friend John came up to visit me Wednesday. We grilled on my new little charcoal grill. It was exciting, trying to get it to light in the wind, and then watching flames detach themselves and go airborne. haha. After we ate, we went to see Shrek 2 which was absolutely hilarious. I laughed the entire time, except when I nearly cried at the thought of little gingerbread man getting crumbled. I totally predicted that he would save the day. Anyway, wonderful movie. I plan to purchase it. John & I out-laughed the entire theater. I don’t think the rest of the people caught half the jokes.
When we got home, we had a 3-hour Invader Zim marathon. I officially created another Invader Zim person. I knew I could count on John to appreciate the humor. I had an amazing time, and Snippy was loving having another person around to give her attention.
Then, I went home this weekend to set up a computer for my old boss. It was the longest 11 hours of my life: moving 3 computers, hooking up all the equipment, formatting the new computer so I could set up partitions, and installing all their software. The best part was setting up a network with win2k and XP Home. It was being bitchy. Plus, 32MB of Windows updates on dial-up was a thrill. I had the network working before I reformatted the computer. However, it would not work for the life of me later in the day. Apparently, both computers had to be assigned a static IP. Grr. Luckily, Zach helped me out with that. So then he & John invited me to go to Terre Haute with them.
It was just like the old days. I had an awesome time! We went shoe shopping, ate at Steak & Shake, and then ended up going to see Troy at 10pm, fully oblivious that it was a 3-hour epic. I mean the movie was decent, but really, aside from the few cool battle scenes (the best of which occurs in the first 15 min of the movie), it was really just a 3-hour chick flick, full of love-empowered guys and beautiful women, whose selfishness results in the demise of thousands and the collapse of a great nation. So it goes.
The next day I rented Barry Lyndon (another 3-hour movie), which is a Stanley Kubrick film from ‘74 i think. My parents did not enjoy it. I had mixed feelings. I really liked the story, but it was extremely slow-paced, which was enhanced by the music. Despite the fact that the pace made sense with the plot, it still got annoying at times. I don’t believe I could watch the movie again. It’s not like the movie gave you a chance to miss any details. But it is a Kubrick, so I’d recommend seeing it. The characters are very interesting and the story twists how you feel about each one throughout. The story was told very well.
One last thing. A new client called last night about the design comp I sent her, and she “loved it”. phew :) As soon as I get a system worked out and a little more organization, this freelance business will really be sweet.
