I honestly had my doubts. After feeling certain that America would support change 4 years ago and being proven otherwise, I’ve remained a bit jaded. However, I can’t say tonight that I think the nation has gotten any smarter, but I do give the Obama campaign credit for bringing in enough new voters to make up the difference. I’m truly amazed. I’ve been thinking all day about what I would do if Obama didn’t win. As much as I knew it was a possibility, I just couldn’t visualize our country if McCain had won. Thank goodness I don’t have to. I feel certain his campaign plan will serve as a model for many in years to come.

I just watched McCain’s concession speech, and I was very impressed. He could have left it at as a simple congratulations, but I appreciated the extra emphasis he placed on supporting the nation. I’ve never really hated McCain, even in past elections, but with Obama in the race this time around, there was just an obvious better pick. Four years ago, I would have preferred him to Bush.

Obama delivered a beautiful speech, of course. Weaving the story around the 106-year-old woman was a nice touch. Seeing these people, just silent in tears, is quite inspiring. Plenty shots of Oprah in the audience in Grant Park, though :) I’m also watching the polls tip blue in Indiana. Obama grabbed several previously red states, but if he got Indiana, it would just be amazing. 50% Obama with 97% reporting…maybe, maybe.

I can remember watching election coverage 4 years ago and my disappointment at the outcome. The results tonight are like a weight lifted. I know there are no instant fixes, but I will sleep better knowing the type of man managing my future for the next 4 years. I’ll be anxious to see cabinet picks. I am upset, however, that this celebration is being so heavily focused upon race. I don’t like the idea of labeling Obama as the “black President”, I hope that we instead remember him in the many years ahead for the bigger things he will accomplish. The Change reaches beyond racial issues.

And I’m also keeping a close eye on Prop 8. I’ve seen more about it than the Presidential race around here.

Anyway, thank you…and please let these children grow up in the White House without corrupting and exploiting them.

PS Indiana went blue!
