I finally remembered to watch Sunday Morning on CBS this morning. At home, I’d watch it every Sunday morning with my family, and I absolutely enjoyed it. It’s about the closest thing to news that I can handle. The show is completely interesting every week.

This week Bill Geist visited a high school with the mascot, “nimrod”. Go Nimrods!! They are a high school of 78 students (yes, smaller than my high school), and they were recently featured on ESPN because of the drastic improvement in their basketball team’s record and of course, their cool name. After the feature, orders have been piling on (almost 20,000) for school t-shirts sporting phrases like “Go Nimrods!”. For the uninformed, nimrod is a biblical figure who was noted as a great hunter. The principal/superintendent/athletic director/coach (haha yeah) had the school vote in years past to change their school mascot with the onset of new associated meanings with the word nimrod, but the students, with a 96% majority, voted to keep it.

Random knowledge that I can’t get anywhere else…that’s what I love about this show. Since most of you won’t be familiar with the show’s staff, I might point out that Bill Geist normally finds his stories by throwing a dart at a US map and driving there in an RV. Of course, stories usually find him on the trip there, but his dart-destination has never failed to provide him with something interesting to report. Every person has a story. Such an incredibly awesome job!

The sun is a theme for the show, so new sun artwork is featured each Sunday, except for the main logo, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a repeat sun. People from all over the world submit sun artwork in all forms that is featured between segments. The best part is saved for the end though. They have footage from some isolated natural habitat. It’s just a camera recording nature…natural sound and everything. On a windy day, the wind howls in the camera. The camera guys get some beautiful shots. They’ll focus in on ducks landing in a pond or antelope running across an open field. Every week is something completely new. THAT is a job I would really love.

This news show is unlike any other you will ever see. So get your lazy asses out of bed by 9am on Sunday mornings and tune in to CBS. You won’t want the show to end.
