Subsurface & More Bowling

Friday night - Caravaned downtown with Adam & Gary to check out the kick-off reception for Subsurface. Ben & Dan both had some art as part of the show. Their work was great and lots of people from work showed up to check it out. I had a lovely dinner at Cancun with Adam & Gary afterward. Quote of the night: “We were practically touching.”
Saturday - Drove up to Lafayette to retrieve my bowling gear. Got my hand all measured and such. It’s quite a process! It was really hard to judge if it felt right when you’re bowling it on the floor in the pro shop. Rather than taking photos, I did some shopping and got myself some nice clothes.
Sunday - Broke out my bowling gear and went to the alley for the beat the clock special. $1.50/game. It was my first solo bowling experience. My hands got hot by 3rd game and so my ball stuck on my fingers on release and destroyed what could have been my career high score. It was fun. I’ll be there every sunday morning.
Monday - Consolidated all my stand-up material and by the afternoon, finally got around to finalizing what i was gonna say. So since then, I’ve been practicing and doing lots of procrastination-spurred cleaning.
And today…I wanted to get this post up before my standup deal tonight to capture my before the show thoughts. I’m kinda nervous as hell but not at the same time. I’m not so scared about doing it as much as I am of it not being well received. It’s been a dream this past month…writing down my random stories/thoughts/rants and then putting them together in a pseudo speech where I can cuss and use off grammar and make up words. I think I have some good stuff. It’s not stellar, but good. I’m pretty happy with my rehearsing, but who knows if I’ll be able to speak slowly and maintain the timing when I’m under that big spotlight and tangoing with a mic. So yes, scared & nervous at the same time. If it goes even mildly well, there’s hope. If it truly crashes & burns, despite the estimated 20-odd supporters I will have, then it’s something I can say I did and I’ll have to keep looking for a related career…like an opinions columnist.
Ok well, I have to leave here in about an hour…so yes, in case you didn’t pick up on that, I’m doing stand-up comedy at open mic night this evening. I’ve been holding off mentioning it on here. I’ll try to give you the sum up tomorrow though, and just maybe I can get some footage up.
