Saturday Times

Saturday was an eventful day.
I woke up early, completed work on my Chicken Leek Pie, an intended breakfast which took so long that it became lunch. It’s pretty good, though, and a nice change up for breakfast. Score.
It was a beautiful warm day, so I took a little walk through Fort Mason. I’d never been down to the buildings on the water, so I was pleasantly surprised to discover all the small shops and benches by the water. What brought me to this area was a quest for a used bookstore. Turns out, 2 highly rated ones were within a few blocks of me. I naturally picked the one closer to the water to try first. Good choice. It was a lovely spot with lovely people. I got the 2 books I was looking for plus a surprise discovery of a Katharine Hepburn book. Nice to know that gem is just a stroll through Fort Mason away.
I had secondary plans to make falafel but my quest for tahini is a losing battle. After staring at the foreign foods aisle for 15 minutes, I broke out the iphone for some googling. I had no idea what I was looking for. No help. Wiki said tahini paste is available at well-stocked grocery stores. It seems I do not show at a well-stocked store. It also mentions needed a food processor….so this dish is getting delayed.
I did however make Chinese chicken fried rice. I should have cut down the amount of pepper, but it wasn’t a complete failure. I’ve been able to make it edible :) I had to make snickerdoodles to drown the pepper though.
Saturday night I joined up with the swedes and some other guys from the office to see Watchmen at IMAX. We waited in line for an hour to get good seats. Movie started at 11pm. We were exhausted, but it was the last night in town for the swedes. Tore is coming back, but it was a final goodbye for Andreas. I’m actually really upset about it. Really great guys to work with and always fun outside of work too. I was glad to be part of their last night, though :) We had fun, drunk guy puking on himself next to Tim and all :) I spent the rest of the night doing out-of-character things and facing big decisions. It really was a big Saturday.
I spent today resting and watching old movies. “Suddenly, Last Summer” was a Hepburn/Liz Taylor flick I’d never seen. Oh, Friday I saw “Holiday Affair” which has been on “really long wait” on netflix forever. I finally got it. I was a perfect cap on my Friday night.
I took a 2 hour nap after dinner today, so I was afraid I wouldn’t be sleepy, but it’s 11pm and I’m definitely ready to sleep again. DST came at a bad time. I needed that hour today. I leave for Nashville Friday night! Excited. I need to do laundry though…I skipped on that today, which I’m sure I’ll regret.
