Resolutions: The Update

Way back in Decemeber I posted some goals for the year. To recap:
- A boyfriend would be nice. I was single 86% of this decade. Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty awesome for the most part, but I’m ready to move on (I think).
- A new job role…and let’s make it stick this time.
- No more car payments. (We’re on track, god willin’ and the creek don’t rise) And cheaper insurance would be awesome (Must I really wait until I’m 30?)
- Teleportation. I ask a lot, I know, but let’s keep trying, okay?
- Comedy, can we be friends again?
- Counting on a massive road trip in the stars
Boyfriend
Well, no boyfriend yet, but the road there involves actually getting out & meeting people. Well, I met lots of people this week, three of which were dudes who expressed some interest. One of them got my phone number.
My first social stop was dinner & a concert with Kali & Caio Wednesday night. We got dinner at Osha and drinks at Kelly O’Brien’s before ending up at the Barrel House for the Aloe Blacc show. The venue is owned & operated by a competitor agency (oops). There were maybe 100 people, so it was a perfect, intimate concert experience. Plus, the show & drinks were free (and always are, if you’re on the list or know people). Sweet. Aloe Blacc does the music for the HBO show, How to Make it in America. He was a nice branch from my typical indie rock experience. Overall, it was a fun night mingling with the advertising world. I had a guy who had just moved here from NY two weeks ago come up to talk to me. His timing was terrible, though, since he took his opportunity while I was in line for the bathroom. I’d seen him looking at me throughout the night, so when he double-backed to the bathroom line, I knew it was to talk. Sure enough, it was. We only got as far as saying where we worked before it was my turn for the bathroom. I could look him up if I really tried, I’m sure, but I think it’s almost better this way.
The rest of my socializing went down Friday night. I met up with Tim & Emily at Fly bar. I met some more of their friends and we ended up trekking down to the Mission to Gestalt before closing down the night at Double Dutch. I was so tired, but scored another stranger who walked up to talk to me. A guy in our circle ended up with my number. We’ll see. I’m just happy to be following through on my social goals.
Job role
Actually, on Thursday I got some great news. My transfer at work has been finalized & approved. Effective Sept. 1, I’m officially an associate video editor!! I furthered my social efforts on Friday to celebrate the news with lunch at Pedro’s with some of my new teammates. I’m really excited about working with this crew! It will stick this time because it’s an official title change with salary adjustment. Official. Official. Official.
Car payments
Over and done. Check. AND my insurance went down $30/month out of nowhere!
Teleportation
Not exactly, but having my bike feels like the next best thing. I wish I had an exact number, but since I bike practically everyday to work, I’m going to guess that I’ve accumulated >700 miles biking over the past 5 months. Crazy.
Comedy
Out of left field, I got an invite to open for a comic when he headlines a show in SF in January. Nothing confirmed and it won’t be in 2010, but it’s a glimmer of a possibility.
Road trip
I’ve really dropped the ball on this one. I’ve half-planned three different excursions and never executed any of them. Clock is ticking on this one but ~5/6 on resolutions is far better than any past year’s results, so I’m not going to let it be a dealbreaker.
I have calls with Carrie & Adam yet today and my sister will be here on Thursday for another Labor Day weekend visit!
