Past Musings

I had such a sad post written about a kid that forgot his IM name but by the end, I got to thinking about funerals which reminded me of an assignment I had in my HS English class, so I’ve been perusing my old school papers and files. Most of the good stuff is from English 10. Oh, I should mention, I had to write a short thing about how I’d want to be remembered when I died, so here’s what I wrote:
Well, I’ve finally decided how I want to be remembered. I want people to look at my gravestone and say “You know she had a great personality and she was a great mom.” I would also like to be remembered as a girl who achieved her goals and moved up in life without leaving those close to her behind. Hopefully by the time I die, I will be in my late nineties, but I don’t want to be remembered as some old hag who shook her broom at bad little kids. I would rather be remembered as the nice old lady down the street who was active in her community and never put herself before others.
Was I a Girl Scout or what? Sad, though, because the erased post was about regret that I’ve pushed so many people away in my life. Another assignment was to make a school newspaper. Our group, of course, had the coolest one. I must share this excerpt from one of the articles:
The new TR bowling team is on a 12 game winning streak. Most of their success is contributed to their star player, Mindy McCutchan. She was quoted for saying, “Golf tees me off, bowling is more up my alley!”
Yeah I know my humor hasn’t evolved much in those 6+ years. Man, so long ago…oh man, and this from 7th grade. I basically say how much I hate 7th grade and end with this line:
When I grow up I’d like to be either a politician, a lawyer, or a banker because I love math. I’ll most likely end up being something that involves agriculture…
Oh boy, and I just found the list of “you know yearbook’s your life when…” Man, cracking me up, I’ll share a few:
- you get jealous because someone else uses white space better than you do
- more people are nice to you because they know you are on the staff
- you freak out when a caption is a pica too short
- you recognize fonts as the movie credits roll
- you know every custodian by name
Yes, I even knew the custodians. It’s so sad how true all of these are, down to calling the adviser mom by mistake (hehe she really was my mom). And if you actually read this far, here’s a sad little treat. Oh, and the image is a drawing from kindergarten. You can kind of see “mom cooking” showing through. The funny thing is I don’t hug my mom. No wonder I struggled for an accurate depiction.
