Several months ago, I came across a preview for the movie Northfork. I was immediately drawn in to the concept, and it looked amazing. However, Rotten Tomatoes, along with other review sites, were apparently not impressed by it. I watched it last night, despite the reviews, and I’m so thankful.

It was a completely visual movie. Any landscape buffs will love the movie for that alone. It was all very desaturated, giving it a kind of sad beauty. It wasn’t the type of movie where every detail gets wrapped up in a nice package at the end, but it does well enough to provide closure on the film. The Polish brothers left just enough room for the audience’s imagination to fill in some gaps.

The film was a combo of history, religion, and fantasy. It held my attention to the end. I can’t get some of the imagery out of my head. I couldn’t find a photo of the scene that I loved the most. I just really enjoyed it. It left me feeling very passionate about life in general. It was a nice feeling.

It’s not a movie for everyone, but for anyone who enjoys a film that truly embraces the viewer with unique, real characters and powerful imagery, this one’s for you. Please check it out and hopefully back me up on this one.
