I must say I was pleasantly surprised with how last night turned out. For the first time in my life, I took longer than an hour to get ready. You could call it a “social experiment”. It was great. I took random clothes and put them together, something I always do but I change before I leave because I think people will think I look stupid. Well, screw that. I’m trusting my own gut from now on, because I got a shitload of compliments (mainly from intoxicated Rachel).

Anyway, I met up with some CG people at Chumley’s. It’s funny because I never really talked to any of them while in school, but they’re good people. We had about the worst waitress on the planet. Seriously, she was really bad. I swear she was on something. She called me “hun” and “sweetheart” one too many times. I wanted to scream.

My friends from back home called and I walked over to meet them at Knickerbocker Saloon. They were kind of lame. John was sickly, but he brought me a William Blake poem to read. I guess I was just in the mood for action/laughter/dancing-packed fun, not just sitting there. They headed out at midnight, and I called Justin to try meet back up with the pack.

He was at Triangle fraternity and said I had to meet him there. Turns out, my first frat experience was disappointing. They were no preppy boys and slutty girls all trying to hook up with each other. Of course, this frat was having a hoe down. I was in my element. They were jamming to country, and Justin was on the verge of an anti-country meltdown. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, I’m a total country fan, so he got to hear the best country song ever, Fancy, and Hard-workin’ Man. Oooh ooh and the Watermelon Crawl, which I hadn’t heard in ages, but my sister & I totally had a dance to it back in the day. I’d never really talked to the frat guy before, but I think we bonded…more of a mutual respect for the country kid type thing. Ha yeah, I think I made this other kid’s day when I said my dad drives tractors for a living. Farm kids are good people. I was totally drunk on life at that point, because I was alcoholically sober, but I was totally pulling off my bullshit sarcastic cockiness. People just don’t intimidate me anymore. It rocks.

So 2:30-ish, we headed to Harry’s. Another first for me. Ryan got us drinks and knew the bartender so they were really damn strong. I got rum & Sprite, and yeah, I never tasted Sprite. I became totally incoherent. I remember Justin & Ryan talking to me, but I really wasn’t understanding the words coming out of their mouths. I was on the verge of falling off my bar stool. It was a lot of alcohol for little me, and I was the driver. When they kicked us out, I downed a water bottle and we went to Arby’s. Water helped me be able to not die walking down the stairs. Stairs are tough for me sober.

We walked in to Arby’s, and I point to a girl in the doorway and say, “I had English with her freshman year.” I’d talked to her before but she totally didn’t remember me. Then, I turn around and say, “Oh, that kid was in CG”. I was talking about Frank Lloyd Wright and the CG kid made his attempt to chime in. I think I played it really cool. He said, “Oh, I stayed in a Wright house. If I could get your number, maybe I could call you when I remember the name.” LAME! I was still pretty drunk but I just smirked at Ryan and Justin. The kid didn’t have a chance. He asked my name four times. Silly boy sat next to me for two semesters in a row and never desired to know my name then. Bastard. I could have been so much more of a bitch to him, but he was so drunk that I knew he wouldn’t recall my bitching greatness the next morning. I was pretty sure he knew Holly, and he did. I gave him my email address, not my cool one. He said “Are you sure this is one you check?” “Oh yes, I promise. I’m no liar.” which I wasn’t lying, I check it. I had full faith he wouldn’t remember it in the morning anyway, and so far, so good.

So I finally got home at 4-ish. Snippy was not pleased. She was clearly tired, cranky, and ready for bed. And let me tell you, the tornado alarm test was a real thrill this morning. But yeah, I had an awesome time with a bunch of people I basically barely knew. Seems the whole crew will likely join back up for my birthday celebration. So yeah, not going home for that now.

Get ready people, my birthday is going to be fun as hell. Hope you can handle it.
