My OCD

For the record, I was a pretty good kid yesterday and first thing this morning as far as doing real work. Radio Paradise continued to serenade my computer time yesterday until I went to bed. I turned it on first thing this morning, and it’d still be playing if I hadn’t gotten sidetracked. It’s that awesome. They play Doves to Muddy Waters. Really, it’s not that much different from my usual full random music lib listening experience. But with Radio Paradise, I hear bunches of new stuff intermingled with some already known great songs.
So I couldn’t get Neko Case’s Furnace Room Lullaby off my mind after hearing it on RP yesterday, thus spurring a frantic quest to “happen across” a download. I have had success with this before with Ladybug Transistor’s Oceans in the Hall for instance, which lead me to a great mp3 blog. Anyway, Johnny had thrown out some artist names/songs last night so my brain was now 100% focused on obtaining new music this fine Sunday.

Well, I came across emusic.com, which Rach had referred me to ages ago but I’d never really fully checked it out. So I signed up for the free trial that included 50 downloads, and thus signed my day away. Despite telling myself, I’d save my free downloading for later, I began a listening frenzy. With each random listen, an idea sparked of something else to search for. I ended up with the most random set of 26 downloaded songs for the day…from The Deer Lick Holler Boys to Glenn Miller to David Allan Coe.
I may have to go watch TV just to pry myself away because at least knitting is more productive than filling up my already nearly full hard drive. Rather than buy an external hard drive, I may just spend a lil bit more and hook myself up with a mac mini from Derek, if he hasn’t found a buyer for the suped up lil beast yet. Aww, my first mac. I hope he still has it.
But man, I’m in a total bluegrass mood today. If it had cool banjo, I just had to have it. Listening to “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” right now. I sent a message to a boy on myspace at IU that played mandolin and liked bluegrass…and yeah, he wasn’t bad looking either hehe…but he has ignored me. I can’t wait to move to an apartment. I better find cool friends. I miss days of playing music with friends and dancing to it as badly as possible. I’d really like to have a party this very moment actually. I need to have one before I move.
Ooh, I downloaded Wabash Cannonball, too, because that was my grandpa’s favorite tune. He’d play this one-man-band version of it all the time. I wish I’d had the foresight to have him teach me how to dance way back in the day. He knew all the fancy steps for big band dancing.
ooh yes, and in all my searching, I also found a new MP3 blog which appears to have stellar music selections for your sampling: 3hive.com.
But there is officially no doubt in my mind that my Researcher MO is dead on. I was making such wonderful progress on my project before this all too.
