My Morning Rant

I should be packing, but I keep having pretend conversations in the mirror about this, so it’s probably less creepy if I write it here instead.
I went to Comedy Caravan at Knickerbocker last night, which was awesome once the local idiot got off stage. There was a big group of us retired CG folk…Rachel, Brisbin, Short, Heather, some Pete guy, and 3 non-cg friends of Rachel’s. Ok so the only seat left was across from the guy that drives me insane. It’s like my body has to work extra hard to morph my death look in to an “oh, that’s nice” face when I’m around him.
So anyway, the guy starts rambling AGAIN about how Tom Waits changed his life. yada, yada. So starts talking to me about the mix I made for Rachel (which was awesome I might add) and he says, “yeah, there was a lot of poppy crap on there.” Alright, whatever. I could care less if this guy likes the music, BUT then he goes on to ask if I’ll make him a mix. When I asked what sort of music he liked, I swear this is what he said:
“well…i don’t liked well-produced albums, where everything’s balanced to sound nice…”
I’d share what he said next, but i sort of stopped listening because it turned in to quite a description. So I just say, “yeah, I don’t analyze the music that closely, so I’m not gonna filter on that”
This brings me to my rant. I can appreciate liking a rough sound, but disliking well produced albums in general just baffles me. I swear my biggest pet peeve about a person these days is a person afraid to fit in. Maybe this is a stretch assumption from the conversation, but trust me on this one. People that seem to go out of their way to dislike something everyone else likes drives me insane. I mean I used to be like that…“oh mainstream music…I can’t like it.” I realized I was a complete idiot and missing out on a lot with the philosophy. So what if I like a fucking pop song? They’re usually pretty damn catchy (that’s the whole idea), so I’d have to try really damn hard not to like it initially. Wouldn’t be so hard once it was an overplayed POS of course.
So yeah, people get over yourself. Avoiding mainstream in any arena doesn’t make you any cooler, it just makes me want to punch you in the face and scream “quit talking before I hit you again.” Seriously, all that “deep thinking” and philosophical bullshit just makes me want to puke these days. I wish someone would have punched me a few years ago and said these same words.
Consider this my community service.
