After stopping by work and driving around checking out some houses/condos, I ventured down to the Vogue to catch the My Morning Jacket show. I was early so I got the pleasure of shivering for 35 min outside in line (ouch…somehow I managed a paper cut parallel to and just under my fingernail on my pointer and it pains to hit Y. ouch)

Well, I was standing behind this girl that looked really familiar, and soon, this guy Dave I graduated with comes walking up to them (which confirms I prolly knew their faces from school) and then it was weird since he knew the random girl standing right next to them haha. I always see Dave in Broad Ripple. He’s in Lafayette. We should really carpool to these shows. Anyway, I missed getting awesome seats, but it was a decent spot in the balcony. I should have stayed there.

Opener was Kathleen Edwards...outfit from Canada. Really good. They had some stellar guitar work. I was glad I got there early enough to see them.

So I made the ill choice to venture towards the stage for MMJ set. It was so fricken packed. I did not expect so many people. You literally could not get through the main floor. So I spent the first part of the show on the other side of the speakers from Jim James. I couldn’t see him but I could sure hear him. My ears are still ringing as I type :( Serious damage I fear. Anyway, I basically looped around the vogue trying to snap some decent shots…and failing. ISO Auto is my new enemy. I should have stuck with my usual approach.

But the show. It was amazing. There was so much energy. These guys play, for the most part, chill music but they were rockin and all over that damn stage (adding to my photo struggles). They played a lot off the new Z album, which I had not heard aside from the single, so it was falling on fresh ears. I was diggin’ it. I’d already bought the album just before the show started. I got a signed cover and a free 7” single :) so i was feeling very reassured about my purchase.

I was in heaven when they played Golden. I can listen to that song on repeat for hours. They also played Mahgeetah & Run Thru (I think…my brain sucks). The show was almost completely new stuff, which was disappointing, but nevertheless, they proved their new sound to me.

It was still a kick ass show though. They came back for 3 or 4 song encore. Pretty much everyone there appeared to be a hardcore fan which was awesome. Everyone was so in to it. But I really just wanted to curl up on the stairs and let Jim lull me to sleep. So beautiful. Even when they rock out, their music still has that smoothness, which amazes me. I listened to the new album twice on the way home and twice this morning on my way to work. I was so damn tired…a real struggle to stay awake for that drive home but it was completely worth it. I may just have to venture down to Louisville to catch them again in Nov…for double the ticket price :-/

Oh, random side note, The Patio is closing…they say the Vogue will compensate by hosting their regulars and having more live music…but we’ll see. Kinda sad. I have good memories at The Patio.
