My First Non-Super Bowl Sports Fan Experience

I watched a football game today. The entire game…I’m talking every moment & play. I like the idea of the social element that revolves around sports, so I’m trying out being a fan. I studied stats and such this morning to prep myself for today’s game of the colts vs patriots. I also fretted the entire drive over, up to the moment I was knocking on the door, nervous about hanging out at a new place with new people.
I’ve always appreciated sports but it’s really hard for me to watch an entire game by myself. I get distracted and nothing brings me back to it.
Of course, I think I jinxed the colts. They lost. Yes, it’s my fault. It was the first game I’d seen all season.
It was fun though and once I’m more comfortable with my understanding of the game, I could see myself becoming a more vocal spectator (rant: i think it’s ridiculous that just having the football in your hands over the line counts as a touchdown but both your feet have to be inside the white line for a pass to count…consistency people, seriously).
Tyler has some valid points on why I should be a colts fan, but I still feel like it’s a cop-out to default to my home team who just happens to be the reigning champs. We’ll see though.
But yeah, I’ve never watched an entire professional football game that wasn’t the super bowl. It was a big day for me. Our party was small (b/c Tyler waited til the last minute to find people *sigh*). It was still really fun though. Hung out at Tyler’s place with his friend, Collin, & his sister, Trisha. The poor kid started getting smack talk texts the last 5 minutes of the game.
It sucks that we lost, but it was a solid game. Despite it being a moment for the opposition, you can’t deny that that one-handed catch by Moss was pretty incredible. Clearly evidence of his basketball background (he played in HS with a current Miami Heat player, Jason Williams). See, I’m fricken on this sports stuff.
Lots of fun moments…interceptions and sacks and that fun stuff. I still think football is too stop & go. It was cool seeing it in HD though. I’ve never really watched anything HD, and it was incredibly clear. I know, I’m behind the times.
Well, it’s late and I need to get out of here, but I didn’t want to forget my first social sports outing. I think I have potential to be great at this fan business.
