So my first day went well. I had a computer…a mac, no less, and an orientation and email that was already working. It’s the little things. I was even given a lovely floral arrangement “From all of us at AKQA”. I assumed it was from my mom or something until I opened the card. A pleasant surprise indeed.

The guys I share my area with are pretty stellar so far. We went to lunch at Central Cafe or something on South Park and enjoyed our sandwiches on the grass in the park. Sweet. I’ve already met a girl who hails from a smalltown and a guy from the midwest, so I’m not quite the foreign object I feared I’d be. Everyone has been super cool, volunteering info left & right. I’m anxious to get started on some work. As one might expect, we’re waiting for new projects to start rather than dealing with the headache of bringing new people in mid-project, so I may have a few days with little to do. I’m okay with that, though, if it saves some chaos. Luckily, Microsoft is hosting a 2-day Silverlight training right down the street, so I’m gonna check that out. No real expectations for it other than I should learn something I didn’t know previously.

The office itself is way bigger than I remember. Either that or Johnny skimped on my tour last year. He’s a busy kid, so I’ll let it slide. Not that I’m doing the same stuff as him by any means, but I still feel that just by people knowing that I know him, I definitely have a higher bar to hit. I do enjoy a good challenge. I won’t deny that I have questioned my decision to pick up and move out here. At this point, I have 0 reservations about the city or my company, only that my interest in web dev is still very much up for debate. I’m hopeful that once I have a project, that worry will dissipate. *crosses fingers*

However, per photo, I do have a skylight above my area and access to chill up on the rooftop whenever the urge may strike. Those things paired with the likelihood of above 0 temps and at least partial sun add up to a bunch of happy points in my mind.

I’m going to love it. I’m sure of it.
