I had a pretty frustrating morning at work, but it was all relieved come lunch hour. I had just finished eating, when a group lunch was suggested. I was like, eh what the hell, I haven’t had dessert yet heh. We all piled in the minivan for a trip to McAllister’s. After Wendy’s & BP, it’s the next hottest hot spot for our crew. Really, the short trip made me wish I always had a minivan available. I had to yell at the kids in the back to buckle up and then the others were yelling to change the station. I got yelled at for not having a DVD with me for them to watch for 5 min haha. We had a great lunch hour with lots of great stories. I must share Derek’s:
So this guy wanted a fountain and a waterfall in his backyard, but he needed a big boulder. Well, as you know large rocks are quite expensive, so he did some research on the net and discovered that many people build their own boulder out of junk. And thus, he dug a pit, gathered all his old monitors & printers, and wrapped the pile in chicken wire. He purchased $100 worth of concrete mix and poured it on the monstrosity. Unfortunately, it only filled a tiny bit of the cluster, and he realized he’d need about $1K more worth of cement to fill it. And so now this collection of hardware exists cemented in place in his backyard.
Now seriously, I can’t make that stuff up :) I’m so excited to be around lots of people again, because it warrants bringing back my “Quote of the Day” *drum roll*
Well if I had banana trees or coconut trees or whatever, I’d want to have free-roaming monkeys as well.
It was decided that the “free-roaming monkeys” would manage to transfer their shock collars to their owner and we would find poor Derek stuck in a corner surrounded by monkeys.
Ah yes, that lunch was just what I needed. I wiped out the rest of my to-do list by 4:30. I still have my mind on that script I submitted, which the guy still hasn’t made any comment on. He went with us to lunch, but I didn’t want to talk work on our break. The suspense is literally killing me. *sigh*
Oh yeah and I spoke to one of my multimedia guru peeps today. He just returned from a trip to San Fran. Hopefully, he’ll be hooking up with Derek sometime soon. Derek told me that if we had someone with his skills on board, he would personally take a pay cut to hire him. haha. Derek gets so excited about flash.
Sure sometimes, like this morning, work can be a real bitch, but so long as it’s a bitch with great people around, it’s nothing that’s gonna get me down. I suppose I learned that with the grant project at Purdue as well. A guy on the new team for that project didn’t luck out with as cool as a team as I did. In fact, he’s working with some of the QA testers that I sort of shared my opinion about with him, and he thus said only, “I’ll say this. You were right about a lot of things.” Poor guy.
Anyway, I’m rambling. One last thing, I’ve thought of a new feature I may add after I get iTunes plug-in display finished…Madwoman Music Calendar. It could be cool. Oh and I bought Trillian Pro3 yesterday, and it’s super nice. File transfers are now a breeze. It also has tabbed windows, but it just makes the windows too big so I don’t use it. Oh and one week of Audioscrobbler, and it seems I’ve heard 1286 tracks. I think that means one thing. I’m at my computer way too much :)
