UPDATE: I’ve re-watched the commercials online and totally forgot some that were great. Bud Light “Wine & Cheese” party &  the Oboe story which apparently doesn’t count since it wasn’t an “advertiser.” Also, to the people who are voting for e-trade, weird lizards, and the other wasted 30 seconds of my life…you pain me. You really pain me.

It’s just after midnight following the big ‘08 super bowl. I just have to mention that the game brought our entire party of people (mostly all sporting colts gear) to their feet at least 2, maybe even 3, times. I’m by no means a hardcore sports fan, but I wanted the Patriots to lose sooo badly, that I literally might have become a depressed maniac (especially considering my poor health) had the game not turned out as it did.

Obviously, the long, game-winning pass was monumental, but I feel the true play of the game, the real turning point, happened a bit earlier. Manning appeared to have been sacked and all of us cried out in agony, only to see a running figure release the ball in to the air—screams erupted as we watched #85 (i think) reach up in to the air and manage to grasp the ball despite the 2 defenders right on top of him. He held on to the ball above his head as he was brought to the ground. We all stood screaming & cheering in awe, especially when we saw the close-up instant replay of Manning tearing loose from the defenders. Call it luck, but that was a memorable moment for sure.

But goodness, you would have thought it was New Year’s Eve when Moss missed that last catch on the 4th down with seconds left on the clock. We were clapping and screaming and jumping…people were hugging & high-fiving. It was incredible. I wasn’t nearly that excited when the Colts won last year. I’d never even seen the Giants play before tonight, but I was so moved by this game. My heart hurt when the Patriots took the lead, with only 2:42 on the clock. A part of me thought it was over, but the rest of me boiled over with faith—I mean I was at the “Eli Manning is our Last Hope” Super Bowl party.

I am stoked. No doubt. I can’t help but imagine the Manning family—not only did their sons win 2 consecutive super bowls but they were also the MVP. Ridiculous. Almost a shame to have so much achievement so early in a career. Your only goal is to live up to your past life.

The commercials were a letdown yet again this year. Surprisingly, I honestly forgot that the Super Bowl contained special commercials. Budweiser of course had many entertaining ones: Rocky-themed Clydesdale & flying man meets airplane (which I think would only be funnier if they had cut to the interior of the plane after he was annihilated). I predicted Coke would have the best one of the night. By the end, I think I chose well. The political jinx was more than just clever, it cast a really nice message—almost a callback to the famous “I’d like to buy the world a coke.” What others…oh yeah, Tide. Fricken Tide had one of the funniest (we laughed the whole time). “Silent your stains…with Tide.” Genius. Sales Genie wasted a shit-ton of money. career builder had some good stuff last year, but apparently was hoping to confuse & gross people out this year. cars.com was decent with the ring of fire one.

Watch them here

Anyway, in case you were wondering, I’m making strides towards recovering from my week-long illness. I finally mustered up the energy to hit Walgreens at 9pm yesterday. Mitch suggested Advil Cold & Sinus. Oh my gosh. I think it saved my life.  By 11pm, I was sending Mitch a thank you text. I was breathing without extra effort, blowing my nose less often, and my head felt 5 lbs lighter. Amazing. I actually slept last night. I’d been up from around 2-5am the last 3 nights, unable to fall back asleep and thus, roaming about holding my head over pots of boiling water and anything else I could think to do. That was with taking “night” medicine. So yeah, hats off to you Advil C&S. You let me go to a Super Bowl party and see an amazing game. I should write them a testimonial and maybe get money. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Anyway, I’m getting sleepy and looking forward to another night of sleeping. Yay! But yeah, I’m glad I worked up the energy to go out today. I hadn’t socialized in almost a week, so it was nice to be around people. It worked out well. Andy & Tyler were the only MS people there, so there was no work talk. It was actually a really fun group. But yeah, I’m gonna sleep. I’m scheduled to be funny Tuesday night and I’ve had no energy/brain to write material or practice or anything, so I must do some fast recovering.

I’m still hoping to hear from AKQA. Only update I have is that the guy is swamped with annual reviews, but Johnny says I should hear from him soon….Johnny who is in Whistler, Canada for 10 days…snowboarding. Jerk. He says I would die snowboarding. He’s probably right but I resent the fact that he was able to discern that from our long distance, IM-based friendship. I’m not that clumsy of a typist.

Congratulations, Giants! You’ve started my ‘08 so well. We are kicking ‘07’s ass.
