It may seem odd that lunch with 2 co-workers warrants a post, but the thing is, these boys never ever invite people to go to lunch with them. It’s like a secret club, so when I got an IM from Mitch today asking if I’d like to join he & Derek for lunch later, i nearly flipped…ok, not really but i was taken pretty off-guard. So we loaded up in Mitch’s jeep and I said, “so, it takes going to Europe to get a lunch invite from you guys, eh?” since they said lunch was to tell them about my trip.

Well, after Mitch managed not to kill us all trucking through the tons of snow we got today, we ended up at b-dub’s. Now, these 2 guys are super best friends, and they were cracking me up. We planned a TV series that would follow Derek around as he traveled around with his family, national lampoon vacation style, after Mitch & I immediately offered to pay money to see Derek on a typical suburban family vacation. Quality. So we didn’t talk much about my trip, but I did get offered the position of head cheerleader for Derek’s basketball team. I think that’s something else people would pay to see.

It was a completely awesome time. So many highlights from such a short lunch hour…the waiter getting paranoid when Mitch started chuckling as the guy rolled each bill down in front of each of us, the boys talking about Bo Jackson and then Derek asking Mitch in all seriousness if he had read his autobiography b/c Derek thought it was amazing, and last but not least, Derek thinking he offended me when i once again turned one of his comments in to a sexist remark. In fact, I’ll share it b/c the kid always takes me completely seriously despite me telling him I’m almost always being sarcastic.

D: So why don’t you be an IT person…it’d be cool to have a woman who was straight up about things and all…

M: So that you can meet your quotas and get grants for having a woman in that role?

D: *eyes huge* No, nooo dude, i did NOT mean it that way at all. seriously, i was just sayin’...*mitch laughing*

It’s still just as funny in my head. Anyway, after that, we decided we should go tea shopping, which in context I found absolutely hilarious…leaving a sports bar to go to a tea shop. Unfortunately, Derek was a big liar when he said it was just down the road so in reality we just ended up taking the long way home. But tea shall be an adventure for another day. It was a lovely time though. I hope we do it again sometime.

Unrelated, I have to share this conversation I had yesterday with our company ceo, because really when i walked back to my desk, i mumbled to myself “only at mediasauce…”.

*ceo walks by kitchen door then backtracks and pops in*

ceo: hey mindy, can i ask you a personal question?

m: sure…

ceo: so…after being over there [london] for a week, do you like him more or less?

m: more *smile*

ceo: coool….but we don’t have to worry about you moving over there, do we?

m: *shakes head, laughs* no, not anytime soon

So I retell the story to Amy and she had apparently wondered the same thing, but instead of my friend asking me, it’s the ceo. That amuses me. Oh and yeah, the first thing Mitch asked me when i got back was if I were married. jeez!

But yeah, lots of work to do which is good…keeps my mind occupied. It’s funny…unless i think about not thinking about it, i haven’t really thought about having moved to my lil apartment or having left my lovely brit…it’s really kinda weird. I’ve become insanely more adaptable. It’s kinda nice.

oh and +10 points to me b/c i exchanged about 5 sentences with my next door neighbor yesterday in the hall. He’s a nervous little chap.
