Lost in Marin County

I had high hopes for my trip to this week’s softball game. I had charted a course which would curve me along the Panoramic Hwy, which I’d been wanting to drive for months now. As I retraced my trip down CA-1 with Amy & Alex (this time without the fog), I knew I’d missed a turn. With a sign near the entry that reads, “No gas for 26 miles”, the 1 isn’t exactly a road that you just turn around in a driveway & backtrack, so I kept going. I enjoy getting lost generally, but getting lost on mountainous/coastal regions is another story with dead-end roads and having no sense of which way you’re going with the constant U-turns of the road. It gave me the slightest panic attack when my iPhone said, “No Service”. I did my best to guide by my gut. Well, it was successful if you count ending up exactly where you started after driving an hour (in an apparent circle) a success.

I enjoyed a couple hours of softball. Beautiful sunny day in the 70’s. I let myself get a little sun, not that my skin gives any indication of such.
For my return trip to SF, I decided to gamble on no fog and making it through before dark and attempted to follow my initial route in reverse. It wasn’t the most direct route, and I did end up making one wrong turn (due to a misleading sign) which landed me at a dead-end, but I made it. I passed through gates which noted they close at sunset. With the sun already sitting low and a red light on my dash aglow signaling the near emptiness of my gas tank, I saw all the makings of a B horror flick in the back of my mind. Luckily, I lived to tell the story of my trip. I need to go back with a friend (or a dash-mounted camera) to capture more of the awesomeness of the journey.

On a side note, I’m stoked about the new The National album and I was briefed on my first official video editing project at work. My part should kick off sometime next week. I’m scared/excited/hopeful!
Also, unrelated but there was a gorgeous sunset on Wednesday. Wish there had been time to grab a better vantage point.
