Lebfest & Comic Relief

I’m sort of sucking at updating this, but that’s a good thing. It means I still have some sustainable social life. Saturday was Lebfest, hosted by Amy & Alex and friends. It was quite a spectacle. The opening ceremonies were the best part of the day. After the announcement of teams (I was only picked…3rd to last…), we formed a big circle, passed sparklers around it, ending in the lighting of the lebfest torch, all while Lee Greenwood’s I’m Proud to be an American permeated the airwaves. Yes, I knew all the words. The song was on the Marlboro tape I had as a kid. Now that’s funny. From our ceremony underneath the water tower, we marched forth to the park with each team being led by our festive banner. People honked at us. Neighbors stared. Two little punk goth boys walked past us and we taunted them. We waved at everyone. It was a glorious time. Sadly, our police escort never arrived, but he did loop through slowly while we were at the park. We know the entire town knew of us through some underground phone chain.
Our team, the Porch Geese, lost to the Garden Gnomes, but we left with our heads high. After being down 80+ points after the athletic challenges, we came back to within 1 point after the drinking games that evening. Our parents would be proud. Amy’s were. I walked away from the event with the “Clutch Player” award of awesomeness, because I was the sober one that drove to retrieve keg #2. Who says being DD isn’t exciting? I think the highlight of the evening hours was being able to play ping pong. I used to rock that game. And in a nutshell, that was Lebfest 2006. Photo is stolen from Justin’s flickr, Mike owned flippy cup…for several rounds :)
And last night was my second round of comedy at Cracker’s. I felt unprepared and felt like I crashed & burned. I was admittedly nervous as hell. No part of me was not shaking. I don’t know what the deal was, but I had another excellent turnout of co-workers to back my efforts, who claim I didn’t seem nervous. I’ll have to see the video before I accept either observation. Hopefully, it’s up soon. As I walked off stage after my set this random woman pulled me aside and asked if it were really only my second time ever on stage, and of course, it really was. She said I did an excellent job and recommended I check out 3 Blonde Moms who are in town this weekend. Not sure which night I’m gonna go yet. But yeah, as I walk away this guy Sam who was the MC that night said, “hey, she owns this place, so that’s really cool.” Good thing he was there or I would have never known. So that was indeed pretty damn cool. If only I could get my sister to tour with me, we could totally be famous :)
