Well, as you may or may not know, I attended my first official LAN party on Saturday. It was a day full of adventure, beginning with my first trip over the bridge and thru one of the many “downtowns” of West Lafayette. It wasn’t so bad. Well, after meeting up w/ Matt, I followed him around town to pick up the other 2 LAN party attendees. I got to see a lot of WL that I’d never seen. Always cool…I suppose hehe. By 11:00 am, we were on our way to Delphi for the big gig. I rode alone w/ the company of computers…hehe the story of my life. Great tunes on the radio, but I heard the same tom petty song on 3 different stations. That was a little creepy. After turning around a couple times, we finally arrived. I believe we were up and gaming by around noon or so. Okay, so lemme tell you, I suck at gaming but damn is it fun nevertheless. Luckily, Matthew, aka Mr. Gamer, PhD, identified where my skills lacked yesterday and is helping me work thru my troubles. Apparently, I just need to master strafing. Who knew?
Anyway, back to the LAN party. First of all, you don’t have to be a nerd to attend a LAN party. Although each of us were geeks in our own right, we were are still pretty hip…wow I think I’m automatically uncool for saying hip. Oops. Well, we gamed from noon to 11pm w/ a little lunch break. I think I could have gone another 12 hours. It was such a great time!! I was the only girl of course, but I have fun w/ the anti-girl gamer comments. I’m a good sport.
Well, on the way home, I was following the car of guys while I rode w/ the computers again. Luckily, the guys pulled into steak & shake b/c I was famished. It was all a good time despite the blistering cold.
Well, I’ve tried gaming at home since the party, and it’s still fun but nothing tops the thrill of gaming live with other people and hearing them wail as I shoot them down or shout their victory cries as they tear me down. I’m eagerly anticipating the next party. These are the kinda parties I enjoy :)
