No, I don’t think it will be as t-shirt worthy as the one in ‘78, but yesterday’s 24-hour snow dump won’t likely be soon forgotten. Keep in mind, we already had about 4-6” on the ground when this next round of snow started falling around 11:30pm Monday night. By late Tuesday afternoon, my area was ringing in at around 9”. The wind was blowing so hard that it was a bit scary even taking the dogs out. They could barely maneuver with drifts going far up above their heads. By late last night, official word was we had 12”. The next morning, official word was my car wasn’t going anywhere.

Work was closed yesterday but we re-opened today, despite 3/4 of us having to work from home. I finally worked up the motivation to dig out my car around 2:30 today, thinking the sun might have melted it a bit by then. Umm no. The photo doesn’t do it justice. The snow was frozen solid on & all around my car, half way up all the way around. Those drifts went up to my knees. I finally got the front passenger-side door open so i could crawl over to the driver’s seat. Yeah, I tried just pushing the driver’s door open. I made it just far enough that it unlatched, which was pointless, so I fed my huge shovel out through the window and dug myself a trench. It took some doing but I finally got my car to move.

As bad as it was, I was a little disappointed. The way i see it, if you’re gonna have a blizzard, you should have a blizzard. I don’t think one day of no traveling counts.

Regardless, it made for some great photos later in the day. I’ve never had to set my shutter speed so fast…in fact, I never realized it even went that fast. Some of the coolest shadows I’ve ever found.

Also, I decided I’m gonna go to San Francisco next weekend. I’m going to babysit some stranger’s apartment & cats. It’s guaranteed to be an experience. Look forward to hearing/seeing about that. I may be checking out a Teitur show while I’m there. The trip is my birthday gift to myself. Super exciting.
