I Had a Dream Last Night
http://www.thiscellardoor.com/blog/entry/i_had_a_dream_last_night/
I was listening to “Whatever (I had a dream last night),” and it inspired me to share my dream from last night. I had forgotten it until I walked upstairs and noted a magazine clipping on the coffee table. This clipping was clearly the inspiration for my dream, so as soon as I looked at it, the dream details flooded into my mind.
I usually remember my dreams every morning, and they are almost always full-feature films. If someone could plug some RCA cables into my brain at night and broadcast, they’d have enough for a nightly sitcom and it would draw all crowds…suspense, romance, sci-fi, horror…my dreams have it all.
So anyway, my dream last night had an interesting plot to it. Basically, in it, I discovered how the flowers in the photo in the magazine clipping were created. I don’t have my scanner here, but basically it was a photo of lavender bell-type flowers hanging vertically with text wrapping around them. So last night’s dream genre was fantasy.
Well, I was at my aunt’s home, and in the dream, she had a beautiful pond with a weeping willow on its banks that stretched out over the waters. There was a small white horse. It was about the size of a colt, but it was full-grown, very lean and seemed full of wisdom. It was completely white with long hair on its hooves and around its head. Its head was very human-like; it’s nose was very short and seemed to almost have faint freckles and more of a skin appearance than hair on its face. Very feminine. I was walking with it along the water. I was talking to her and I recall thinking she was a unicorn in disguise.
Next thing I see is the horse in the water. There is a long stump coming out up out of the water that tapers off to a point. The horse travels up thru the stump and emerges out the end, in this almost liquid like form and as she exits, she leaves a trail of these bell flowers hanging from the end of the stump. And in the dream, I think to myself, “that’s where they got the picture in the magazine.” There was more to the dream…some adventure into a cave with more fantasy-type characters, but unfortunately it’s all very sketchy. I believe it was something to do with facing some evil though.
So now that you think I’m a whackjob…it was an exciting dream for me to have. I’ve been fascinated with unicorns since I was a little girl. I would dream about them all the time. I had a little tent…you know one of those barbie or transformers tents that was small to put in your bedroom…I would sleep in it at night. In it, I would bring a small miniature velvet couch and place my ceramic unicorn on it each night to sleep in the tent with me. In fact, the earliest dreams I can recall involved unicorns and dragons. I had one in first grade or so where I was traveling across this vast stoney area…very dark, swirling clouds and all…and it was just me, all alone with my pastel sweater and long blond hair. I encountered a dragon as I was walking and somehow, little me defeated it without a weapon of any kind, and I kept walking and entered a magical forest full of unicorns. I think I’m missing all the reading I did as a child. My big read in elementary was R.A. Salvatore’s Dark Elf trilogy. If I could be any mystical creature, I’d be an elf in a heartbeat. The elf scene in LOTR was so beautiful to me…living for eternity, protecting nature and unicorns and just always being beautiful and graceful.
I need something that will kick my butt into reading for pleasure again! I’m craving a great book…
