Holy Cannoli

It’s just past 7:30 am on a Saturday, no less, and I’ve been wide awake for the past hour & half, hopelessly trying to go back to sleep. But alas, I’m like a small child on Christmas morning, too excited & impatient to sleep another wink before the big event. What’s the big event, you say? It’s a surprise…well, to those of you I haven’t seen in person and felt compelled to spill the beans, but (hopefully) there will be photographic evidence of it sometime tomorrow.
I have 2 showings this morning, so I’ll use that time to get groceries and hit up some electronics stores for some much-needed accessories/Cd’s. I do have a buyer interested in my house, but they don’t want to make an offer until there’s more attention on their house, which means I have at least a month more of my 12.5+ hrs/week of driving.
We had our monthly pitch-in at work on Thursday with an Italian theme. ooh a man just threw a phone book on my front porch. That was random. Anyway, other people signed up for the few Italian desserts I knew of, leaving me frantically searching online recipes Wednesday night when I got home. Well, Mel at work had mentioned cannoli so I looked those up and thought “hmm they don’t seem too bad…” haha, I was so wrong.
Amy called me at 9 something and all I could say was that my arms hurt from kneading the dough. I literally had to use my fists because the dough was so tough. And then rolling it out was like rolling a ball of rubber-bands, it’d just shrink back to its ball so by the time i got it rolled 1/8” thick, i had a blister on my thumb from the rolling pin. So, it was quite an adventure. The most painful part was that it only made 11 cannolies.

But they seemed to be a big hit at the pitch-in. Mitch just stared and said “You made cannoli…from scratch?!?” And all I could say was I had no idea what I was getting myself in to. I made everyone stall until I could take a photo of them after I put the filling in. That was only mildly embarrassing.
And later that afternoon, I got the lock-box code to a million dollar house in West Clay (a beautiful community I might add), leaving me free to explore it at will. I completely lost track of time taking photos, and it was such a pretty day on Thursday too. It was a huge challenge though because it was still all dusty and the banisters were covered in blue tape. It was definitely pretty cool to be trusted with access to it tho. I triple-checked that all the doors were locked :)
I must add that I’ve completely loved the days getting slightly longer. Seeing daylight when I leave the office is a definite perk, especially since I’ve been parking down the road a bit so that I get some exercise walking to & fro my car. Yesterday felt like spring but it seems today is very much back to winter…
P.S. It seems I set my alarm radio to NPR, so the last 2 mornings I’ve been gently awaken by news of executions. I guess that should make me thankful I’m waking up at all but really, I just get a bad look on my face and say “good morning to you too.”
