Zach & John came up for the Taste of Tippecanoe last night. They had to work, so they couldn’t get here until 9, so we missed a lot of it. However, I think we saw the best parts. First thing we hit was the food. I had my heart set on Jack Daniels terriyaki beef tips, but as is the story of my life, they ran out 2 people in front of us in line. So the 3 of us ended up each getting a different chicken breast sandwich at the hunter’s pub, which we all loved. I later finished things off with snicker’s pie. oooh yeah.
For the fireworks, we somehow managed to get to the pedestrian bridge. They shut off all the lights, which made the stairs a bit scary. The fireworks were amazing. They were as good as the 4th of July show I go to every year at Raccoon Lake. We had a VIP spot to watch them from, too. A train went through right at the peak of the show with its horn blowing. It gave me chills.
The night’s music headliners began after the fireworks. We saw parts of the country act, Branded, and I thought they were really good, though they were doing all covers. However, we knew we wanted to be at the jazz/blues stage. That’s were Governor Davis and the Blues Ambassadors were playing. OMG. I’m speechless. They were just amazing, absolutely incredible. I will definitely make a point to see them when the come to the Knickerbocker, as well as their 4th of July show at Crawfordsville.
The show was even more incredible, because they invited this boy, LD, who looked to be about 12 up on stage with them. He played 3 or so songs with them on his harmonica. His range was unbelievable, from deep to so high that it hurt the girls’ ears who were dancing next to the speakers. He played some amazing solos. I believe he plays as part of the Clayton Miller Band or something like that. The singer & guitarist from CMB also came up and jammed for a song with the Guvna. They got a standing ovation, one of many for the entire show. I want to go see their shows as well. Two skinny white boys, but damn could they play the blues.
So after the show, the 3 of us each bought a CD and got them signed by all of the members. They were really cool guys. I also went to the little boy, LD, and got his autograph which made his day. He was like, “I can’t believe this is happening.” He’s going to be a cocky little boy, but at least he has talent to back it up. But that’s it, my absolutely wonderful night at the Taste of Tippecanoe.
Too bad this CD is not that awesome, but I got the studio version. I’ll have to borrow a copy of the live CD from my friends, but I wanted us to be able to hear both so I bought a different one. It just lacks that umph. Maybe I just need to play with the equalizer a bit. Either that or it’s because it’s 7 yrs old and Governor Davis didn’t quite have as rough of a voice.
