Well, it’s not often I get to use the subject “good news” twice in one week, so I’m sort of livin’ it up. This week has convinced me that I can trust my gut, so to speak. I don’t call it luck, but things in my life have always sort of fallen into place. Although, usually as they’re happening, they don’t appear to be lining up right at all.

The other day I got a phone call from a past employer on campus. I had recently done 2 small projects for him. Actually, they were my first experience with PHP & MySQL, and I had to get up to speed on those over a weekend to do the job. One of my professors had given him my name, because I had a good grasp of ASP & SQL and he thought I could do the job. I really loved this professor’s class, so I devoted most of my efforts to doing well in it. It worked out that he took notice, enough to recommend me to a colleague. Well, that past employer called me because he had recommended me to one of his colleagues and so the chain continues. I met with them this afternoon, and it appears it may be more than just a project but possibly a full-time position in one of the fastest growing sectors of the university. I was floored. I left the meeting on cloud 9. The guys I met with were wonderful. I would love working with them. The meeting was left with, “we have to meet with our boss to see how we can employ you.” Woo!

It’s so funny because exactly a week ago, I decided I would start seeking a full-time position, so I could afford to get a house and stop wasting my money on rent. I sent an inquiry to a Purdue recruiter and never heard back, but it looks like I may be able to bypass the system. I also got this large freelance project, which I admit, will be difficult if I go straight to a full-time position, but it will provide enough money for a down payment on a house.

And that’s why I say, you should always do what you enjoy. That’s what I’ve done my entire life, and it’s all worked out so far, one twisted way or another. This world is a funny place sometimes.

I just have to keep hoping that things will continue going well. Hopefully, I’m not getting my hopes up too much on this one. heh, there’s a lot of hoping in this paragraph.
