Girl’s Night

Yesterday was a monumental day. Guys may not get this notion so much, but in the ranks of society, there is one act which denotes your induction in to a social group. For women, that act is an invite to girl’s night. I’m not talking ladies night at the bar or joining in a birthday party. Girl’s night is a small event with appetizers and inside jokes. “Mindy, you’re being dramatic.” Not really.
My invite was verbal. There’s no paper trail. A girl came over, kneeled by my desk, looked me straight in the eye, and in a serious tone, said, “We’re having girls night. Would you like to come?” I played it cool but inside, I was throwing a party. I worked quickly to ensure I could leave work at a decent hour. I took muni across town, battling nervous thoughts. I make life in to an episode of Desperate Housewives in my head. It’s actually more amusing than you might think.
Anyway, it turned out to be a really fun night. There was wine & cheese and pigs-in-a-blanket, Project Runway finale, and the last Presidential debate. There were only 7 of us so it was fun & casual. And, there was lots of green furniture, which obviously made me feel at home. It was my trial run, so I hope I held on to my spot. It was just my speed.
Work is still going well. A designer I’ve never met wrote in an email today, “I don’t know you but you’re my hero!” hehe, how often do you get to hear that in web development? Good times.
Big plans for the weekend. Soap box derby, ghost walk, and Petaluma. Who knows how much of it I’ll actually make it to but it’s nice to have options. My new sheets should be in this week, too. I’m yet another step closer to having a real bed.
