First Comedy Paycheck

Well, this is quickly turning in to a comedy blog, but that’s not all bad. So I just returned home from my last night with Mike Veneman and Patrick DeGuire. Both of tonight’s shows sold out. Pretty crazy. The place holds 200. My parents were in town for the first show, and there’s no doubt they saw the best show of the week. All 3 of us killed. I tried to give them a VIP experience so I showed them the green room and introduced them to the other comedians. I think they liked hearing from Patrick that this really can make for a great living.
The late nights did indeed knock me on my ass but it was such a great experience overall. I don’t think I could have asked for two better guys to work with for my first paid gig. They were incredibly supportive and offered lots of good advice. Very cool guys as well as hilarious.
As mentioned, the early show tonight was the best of the week. I really wish I’d taped it. I got very solid laughs for my whole 15 minutes. I had two bachelorettes come up to me after the show wanting a picture with me. I’ll admit, I had a famous moment where I felt like pretty hot shit. It was pretty exciting to have person after person shake my hand or offer me a high five. One guy said, “Openers are usually pretty average, but you were hilarious.” Another guy even said I was the funniest of the night. I talked to a group of people who were just in town for a work function from Michigan, and one of those guys was like “wow, you seem way to quiet to do stand-up.” I was like “I get that all the time, but what can I say, I like speaking when I know people are listening.” I also had a girl ask me out when she thought I was really a lesbian and another straight girl say “Even though you’re not a lesbian, you’re hot and totally could be.” Thanks? haha
Bunch of my peeps came to the Friday early show, and I think it was probably the second best of the week. Amy filmed my set so maybe I can get that on here at some point.
Anyway, I feel really good about how my shows went. As another comic told me, Michael Jordan was happy if he hit 8/10 freethrows, so if I rocked the house 4/6 shows, I have to be proud of that. It’s definitely all very exciting and a compliment when both the comedians you work with ask for your contact info. And sure they could have just been being nice, but both told my parents they had a talented daughter that was on her way. Now this is turning in to a gloating post. heh but I think I earned it. Seriously, that early show tonight went so incredibly well. To absolutely kill in a room of 200 people is such a complete rush. Plus, a little over an hour & a half of stage time over the course of the week just paid half my rent for the month :) It was double what I was expecting. The manager came in with my check and was like “ooh your first paid gig”. It was pretty damn cool.
