Finding My Place

Well, my legs hurt. They hurt bad. Yesterday I walked around for 5 hours and then thought it was a great idea to see how long it would take to walk from my choice apartment back to where I’m staying (which is 4 blocks shy of the office). Well, it took over an hour and Google maps estimates the trip at about 3.4 miles. So yeah, I overdid it, as I often do. But I saw some cool places and put in an application for one, which I’m thinking I have a good chance of getting *crosses fingers*
I visited another place this morning that I really liked but the owners are out of town and I can’t wait for them to return. Bummer. Just as I arrived home, I got a call from Paige. I finally got to see her & Hal. It was fantastic to see them. They took me for a welcome brunch at The Ramp in south beach. It was a cool place, right on the water. It was good times!
And in keeping with the good timing, I got home from lunch to a message about some co-workers communing in the Panhandle for a bbq. It was a great chance to meet a lot of people from the office and sort of witness them in their natural element. It was also good times until the fog rolled in and I got a dose of Indiana chill. I’m gonna have to dig out my gloves.
It was strange hanging out with co-workers who didn’t realize we were co-workers :) At the sauce, it was kind of impossible to fly under the radar like that, though sometimes I wanted to. Now, I guess I’m just biased and expect everyone to recognize me as a new face. It’s for the best, though. As welcoming as everyone has been, it still keeps the ball in my court to branch out and be social. I must say that I think I’m doing pretty damn well, considering my history of social anxiety and general fear of people haha. I definitely feel like I’ve earned myself some props. I’ve wooed real estate people, and managed to make some decent connections at work. There are plenty of cool people to choose from, which helps. Of course, I think it’s important to find non-office friends, but that will take more time.
I must say I’m most anxious for the monthly “Spin Dig” where we gather up at a bar and some people bring their turntables and we rock it out. There’s really no better formula for getting to know people than low lights and alcohol :) We know that’s how I roll.
But so far, so good…still. I need to get some more editing done tomorrow.
And I promise my posts will eventually evolve from boring news to exciting re-enactments of my awesome experiences. Oh, I should mention that I witnessed 2 back-to-back cornhole “swooshes”. That was pretty amazing.
