Feeling Domestic and Ready to Discover Music

Tomorrow is our first birthday pitch-in for work to celebrate everyone with a July birthday. Our theme this month is “summer cookout.” We’ll be firing up the grill, and another co-worker is making his famous hamburgers. Anyway, I decided to bake a pie. It did not turn out to my standards, so yeah, I made a second. Keep in mind this is entirely from scratch…make the filling, roll out the dough, whole nine yards. At least I can add the caramel nut topping to the flop (co-worker with nut allergy), so it’s not all bad. I’m too lazy to take a photo so recall thanksgiving pies. I also decided to make some snicker doodles during pie #2, so I ended up spending my entire afternoon/evening in the kitchen. It wasn’t necessarily the wisest way to spend my time, but baking makes me feel good and my new jasmine/lavendar dish soap…well, I can truly feel it calming my nerves.
Also, tomorrow evening the Midwest Music Summit kicks off. Rachel, myself, and random others will be bouncin’ around Broad Ripple trying to see all the cool bands. I listened to songs from every indie band, so we’ve got a hit list/rough schedule for the 3 days. I feel this is going to be the biggest set of experiences I’ll ever get for only $25. Screw Lollapalooza; Rachel and I are out to discover some new sounds.
*brief interlude to enjoy pie crust (my simple pleasure, people). I guess this pie wasn’t a flop. mmm*
But yeah, a few bands that got an “oooh yeah I wanna see them”: Tiara, The Apparitions, The Silent Years, and The Vegetables (hail from Bloomington).
And one last thing, I got a message from a local guy on myspace, and I just had to share it:
Hey thank u forr add. U look so friendly. I would like to meet u. See u later.
I look friendly. I seriously scared my dog because I laughed so loudly when I read it. I’m pretty sure that’s exactly opposite what most people tell me. Although, I did have a freelance client tell me I had a trustworthy face. That can’t be a bad thing :)
Expect concert reports throughout the weekend. I’m gonna be one tired girl, especially since I gotta be up by 5:30ish in the morning.
