Family Day

Well, Friday night, I saw Judah Friedlander/Andi Smith at Crackers Broad Ripple with Adam, Gary, and his sister, Diana. It was a fantastic show. Andi Smith and I are so kindred spirits. Judah Friedlander can talk shit better than anyone I’ve encountered. World Champion, indeed, but poor Gary got picked on for at least 10 minutes. It was way funnier since he completely predicted it and had reservations about where we sitting. Unfortunately, because I was afraid to get up in the middle of the show, I had to run to the bathroom as soon as it was over and I missed out on talking to both of them. I’m debating whether to show up after tonight’s show just to talk a bit. It might be weird, but I’d like to meet both of them.
From there, we headed to the Rathskellar and joined up with a bunch of folks there. My little sister sucks and never made it there. Ended the night at Old Point. It was an okay evening. Nothing too memorable. I had some bonding time with TBender. He apparently thinks I’m a jerk, which is completely accurate. My sister texted me from “have a nice day cafe” where she had apparently run in to a guy that I was in 4-H with eons ago. He was the 4-H hottie. He claims to have taken me out to dinner at Purdue, but I think he’s confused. He probably wouldn’t be engaged to another girl had that been the case haha. He was apparently bummed I didn’t meet up with them. Seriously, he was at his bachelor party. I have to stick with the single boys or I get in trouble.

Anyway, my sister’s dog allowed me to get an entire 3 hours of sleep, so I woke up in an absolutely horrible mood. I was seriously pissed at the world, so I skipped out on meeting my parents at Bob Evans and also planned to skip our day at the state fair. Thankfully, I finally ate some bread which always makes me feel better, so I worked up the spirit to go to the fair. That and I had decided that Jenna’s dog might have to die if I didn’t leave my apartment.
So it was a lovely day at the fair. Perfect weather. Some sprinkles here & there, but otherwise perfectly enjoyable. Nowadays, it’s my only chance to see baby goats & pot belly pigs. I really miss having goats. Talk about a low maintenance pet. They were 100% fun and the kids were easily smuggable in to the house. Good times.
We also visited the oxen, which are always a treat for me. It’s nice to see an animal so massive that we haven’t made extinct. I suppose I find that inspiring. Plus, there are the photos of them since they were little calves showing the owner training them. They’re just magnificent.

As is tradition, we walked through the pioneer village area, where dad gets to point out all the antiques that we have at home or tell us what random old pieces of equipment were used for. He has a loom and spinning wheel that he is hoping to donate to the fair, as it would provide a nice way for him to be able to come by and see them in action every year. He talked to one of the ladies at the loom about it. She seemed pretty exciting as dad described what he had.
Overall, really nice day. I was glad I made the trip. We ended the day at Broad Ripple Brew Pub & Rene’s Bakery. I’d been wanting to visit the Brew Pub so this worked out perfectly. It was delicious. BBQ chicken was worth the messiness. My parents hadn’t ever really been to the area, aside from my mom’s visits to Crackers in the evenings. They both obviously enjoyed it, watching the dog traffic and such on the monon and being able to have dinner outdoors. They finally understood why I was considering moving there, a debate which is worthy of a post all its own. I despise life decisions.
Anyway, this coming week is going to be pretty insane. My job role is potentially becoming a lot more stressful and of course, on the same week that I have comedy shows Tues-Sat. I’m not sure how I’m gonna feel about comedy starting to take all my evenings.
