Comedy Career…to be

I checked out a pro comedy show last night at crackers, with Dan Cummins headlining and Dan Mengini featured. My man Matt Holt was the emcee for the evening, so I mainly went for a chance to talk to him about my comedy future.
I took a chance and sat on the seats that literally border the stage. I survived the night heckle-free. I’m not hot enough to be heckled. There are perks. Anyway, it was a solid night of comedy. Matt gave a great warm-up and both the Dan’s delivered solid sets. For the most part, they weren’t even dirty which made them even funnier. Definitely educational. Matt introduced me to them after the show…I’m the worst networking person ever, which I definitely need to write about :)
So I talked to Matt before/after the show about moving my comedy career along. He’d like to move me in to the emcee rotation by the start of summer, not just because I’m a girl but because I’m a girl whose funny (says he). I have to get 15 minutes of material that I’m really comfortable with as a start. Once I have that, I’ll start working the Sunday night shows (for no pay)...from there, it can move to some paying nights, but I imagine I’ll spend awhile in the Sunday slot before that happens.
Needless to say, I’m pumped. When I first started this, I never dreamed it would actually lead anywhere and at the time, I wasn’t sure if I really wanted it to. It won’t be easy to move out beyond this, but damn, if my main challenge is trying to see life with some twisted perspective that makes people laugh, I’m not really worried about staying dedicated to the cause since that happens so naturally with me anyway. The hard part is telling it in a way that people get it. Love the challenge though.
So, I will continue to record & post all my shows, good or bad, because it’s a learning experience and I definitely want to document my progress.
I hope…for any of you that actually read this…I will make you laugh at least every once in a while :)
PS I had sexual harassment training for work today, which can only be described as hilarious. Highly recommend it.
