Update: Just discovered some new Margot videos which they apparently filmed here. Now I regret not talking to the band members longer. I could have been in their video hah. I’m still not tired of their album btw.

Yesterday was an eventful day. I stayed home in the morning waiting on my sofa to be delivered. It took the poor guys 30 minutes to get it in, proving that even if I wanted a full-size sofa, it would never fit through my doorway. The guys were really cool, though.

So I literally ran to the bus stop trying to get to the office. I’m on 3 Nike projects simultaneously plus helping with the corporate site, so I had plenty of work to be done. I had an exciting breakthrough on one site. I managed to execute an idea I had that my TM didn’t think was going to be possible. We all know that’s the main parameter I need for success, though, someone telling me I can’t do something.

There was a planned “Bro Down” at the bar next door at 4, but the star of the party arrived about 2 hours later. hah. I was glad I didn’t go early. Even then, I got done with work and Andrew & Akira’s attempt to annoy me by watching me work over my shoulder turned in to an hour-long conversation about opera and natural disasters. Random.

So I finally went over to the party, where I found 3 groups of AKQA’ers…talk about having to choose. I ordered a Sprite which the bartender let me have for free after asking how my Friday was going. It was a nice gesture. So I picked the Bro Down group and headed upstairs. Our department head is going on vacation for a month and possibly (almost certainly) not returning. He’s been there 8 years so we were all a bit shocked by the news. He’s a personality that will be missed in the office though. Selfishly, it sucks because all these people had sent him positive feedback about me over the past 6 months (I know because he forwarded it to me) and now he’s leaving right before reviews. Oh well, it’ll work out.

But yeah, there was a Nike client in town too so I stopped by the Nike team table before leaving at which time the Nike account person asks me if I live in Marina, completely out of the blue. I was like “yes…” and he said “Yeah, I’ve been seeing you walk to the bus.” I’ve talked to this guy once for work, so I didn’t know what to say other than “that’s a little creepy”. I guess he lives by my bus stop and drives his wife by there or something. hah. Nice to know I’m being watched in the mornings.

I had initially planned to head home early, but as the group dwindled, it was a cool group of guys remaining, so I decided to hang with them for awhile. We went all the way to the Mission for a slice of pizza and then spent the evening at Kilowatt, playing darts and just chilling. It was ideal, until this mass of people showed up, but even then, we had a good time. But yeah, it was Tore, Ronnie, Tim, Ray, & Dustin, a group that I’ve never really hung out with, but I enjoyed them. They seemed more of the have fun but not crazy fun types which is more my speed. I did talk to Tyler today about how many of my habits are similar to old people’s. He confirmed he’d never seen anyone younger than 77 sit in a chair and stare out the window while listening to records. I like it!

Speaking of records, I have a bunch of new music headed my way. Either I completely missed the new Elbow album or I just forgot about it, but I listened to it on imeem and fell in love. It was so late but I just wanted to listen to it all night.

Everyone I end up in conversation with asks me the same question. Why did you move to SF and what’s it like living in the marina? I think I give everyone a different answer. I tell everyone that Johnny harassed me about staying in Indiana for almost 2 years, which was definitely part of it and how I found AKQA. But I think the bigger part of that is that I acknowledged I needed a change. The thing is the Marina is fine for me, because it’s not like I go out to bars on a weekly basis and have to deal with all the frat boys. But I mean, between frat boys and homeless people/drug addicts, I’ll take the frat boys I guess. I do like a clean street.

I don’t love my sofa. I mean they only had a full-size one on the floor to try, which was really comfy, but I got the loveseat and it’s all stiff and the back isn’t tall enough to lean back, so I’m having a case of buyer’s remorse. However, I think I just have to jump on it and try to break it in. It’s just gonna take longer because it’s leather. At least it looks nice in my place hah. I’ll work out the comfort eventually.

I’m rambling. I have some Netflix and Hulu action to break in to. Only 2 weeks til I’m headed home. I’m still afraid it’s going to be strange being back. Even though I’ve been here nearing 7 months, it feels like I was home just yesterday. Funny how technology can bridge that gap. I have many exciting things lined up for my time home. It’s gonna be busy and I’m just hoping there isn’t much snow to deal with. I need to remember to pack winter things haha.
