Birthday Girls

I had a pretty stripped down birthday celebration this year. Honestly, I kept forgetting my bday was coming up. Anyway, I slept in, the parents made croppy & fried potatoes, and the day was topped off with a DQ ice cream cake (yum).
Well, yesterday we drove down to Columbus to visit my sister as an early bday celebration. Dad hadn’t visited her new place since she’d moved in June, so I lied and told her he couldn’t make it. When we walked in to her work, she was super excited to see he’d actually made the trip. We got a tour around where she works, which was pretty interesting. From there we hung out at her apartment and then went to Montana Mike’s for dinner. It probably looks just like you’re imagining. I wonder if they paid the table of 8 or so hunters (in garb) to sit there to add to the scene. hah.
We kind of annihilated the appetizers, while we waited for Jenna’s b/f to show up. They were super tasty. Anyway, it was good times. I made Jenna order her filet mignon as “fill-it migg-non”. The waiter said we’d be amazed how many people order it that way. It was really good times. He even brought us each out a massive brownie topped with a bunch of ice cream for our birthdays. We couldn’t even eat our meals, but somehow made room for some ice cream.

We headed back to the apartment to have some cake. Now, I slaved over these cakes yesterday. I had this awesome image of how I wanted the cakes to look, but mom kept telling me none of my ideas were possible. And so, the cake I’m holding looks like shit, because I did only what mom said was possible. Well, for cake 2, I said screw it and tried my idea anyway. It totally worked perfectly! Thanks, mom. They were angel food cakes that I baked in a mixing bowl so they’d be rounded. It’s kind of a family tradition I’m trying to carry on. My late grandma always made each of us a mini angel food cake (i didn’t have miniature pans to mimic) covered in fluffy pink icing. It was just her thing. I tried to update it.
It was good times. Now, Kyle might be going to stay with Jenna next weekend, and I kind of want to go. However, Clayton Miller Band has a show in Lafayette, and Everything, Now! & Mason Proper have a show in Broad Ripple. I’m torn. Visiting Columbus is the only thing that’s free and has guaranteed company, though. That does make it appealing. We shall see.
