Well, good morning. Happy almost last day of July. Can you believe it’s almost August? I sure can’t. It’s almost 7:30am, so this needs to be quick so I can get ready for work. I’m just in a good mood and thought it seemed a nice time to share an update.

Despite my claims of being a jet lag master, it knocked me on my ass yesterday. I woke up at 3:30am and never fell back asleep. So I made some calls about bills at 4am and finished the rest of Charlie Wilson’s War since I’d crashed in the middle of it earlier that night. By late afternoon at work, my head felt like it might explode. I have a design project which is fun and thankfully doesn’t take too much heavy thinking.

And although I was running on practically no sleep and I couldn’t get the thought out of my head about how much less pretty SF is than Amsterdam, I somehow felt more like a true SF citizen than ever before. I walked home from the bus stop, walking in to the intense wind that had over taken the city and it was cold and harsh, but I didn’t hate it. Instead, I had the sensation that it was part of some greater experience. Gotta love home.

I came home and grabbed my Rumi grocery bags and marched down to Safeway. I reveled in being able to walk a bit over a block with only some fabric bags in hand. And I reveled again on the walk home as I carried all my groceries with ease in my lovely little bags. No aching hands from paper bag handles.

I made lasagna and some delicious Striped Delight (cream cheese, chocolate pudding, & graham cracker crust). Watched some Secret of Nimh on hulu while I enjoyed my delicious meal. I was also excited to think about all the money I was saving this week for lunch. It’s a gigantic pan of lasagna. We have this awesome cafe area at the office now, so I’m all about bringing my lunch. I need to snap some photos. It’s pretty sweet.

Anyway, I was able to sleep in til 6:30 am today. Much better. I woke up in great spirits. I can gauge a good mood by whether or not I subconsciously start singing “Good morning, sunshine” when I look in the mirror. And gauge just how good by how long I keep singing the only line of the song I actually know, “Good morning, sunshine. The earth says hello.” Well I repeated it the entire time I made my sausage, eggs, and chocolate waffle breakfast. Yum. Granted, I also splurged and had some Striped Delight. Dessert should be part of a good breakfast, right? :) It’s nice waking up early and being productive. I’m just hoping I have the energy to clean up my apartment tomorrow. I’m half unpacked and the place is feeling a bit cluttered.

After that, I will get some more trip info up. I’ve just been too exhausted to think about it.

Also, my mom called the other day. She said “So your dad was thinking that maybe we could buy your car.” Ah-ha! I made a new Mini fan. I knew it. So yeah, I’m still feeling sentimental about parting with it but it’s exciting to know that I can take it for a spin whenever I’m home visiting, even if Indiana winter is about the worst time ever to drive a Mini. So yeah, I’m going to keep it through October-ish. I want to get at least a couple road trips in before I part with it and then I’ll have it transported home. It’ll be nice to have the extra money. It’s just a shame that it’s so expensive to insure a car out here and such a pain to park it on the street. But yeah, this is about the best case solution for a worst case scenario. At least I’ll know she’s going to a good home.

On that note, I’m off to the shower. I like getting to work early.
