This day has just felt very strange from the very start. I woke up at 4:08 am this morning for what I thought was no reason, but as I sat there, half-conscious, I heard this buzzer/beeping repeating alarm-like sound. It felt like I was in a dream, but I thought the sound must be from my neighbors or something. Well, I walked to the bathroom, and I noticed my dog was up jumping around, which was odd. I saw something sprawled on the hallway floor (no lights on) and I thought, “what the hell is that??” so I stared, trying to focus and realized the sound was coming from it. It’s so funny when you’re not completely awake, how the most normal things appear so alien. I started playing out all these scenarios in my head as to what the object could be. They flashed by so fast. The brain is really quite amazing. I went through several full scenarios as to what the object was and how it got there in what seemed like seconds. I still had the sensation I was in a movie or some kind of alternate reality. It was such an odd feeling. So what was the object? It was the phone from my side table that off the hook. I’m guessing my dog walked behind the couch, got caught in the cord, and pulled it down which scared the shit out of her and the sound of the dial tone was making her go crazy. Interesting how our instincts work, though. She never barked. I could just sense her up near my bed walking around and possibly heard the repeating sound of the phone.

hehe yeah but my initial thought was a dead body on the floor, someone had broken in to my house and maybe there was someone still there. I was very calm about it, though, so I guess that’s good :)

I went back to bed and got up later but for some reason time just hasn’t made sense today. I think it could be partly the weather, but 8 am felt like 6 am and just now 2:30pm felt like 5:30pm. I feel my day should be coming to an end by now. Odd.

But yeah, the really odd thing was that I parked in a different parking garage today. I was walking down the stairs (15+ flights of stairs today. Go me.) and this old man was about 1/2 a flight down below me. He paused, turned and looked up at me before turning back and continuing down the stairs. Then he paused again and without looking back at me, we had this conversation:

Man: “I think I know why I’m having such a good day.”

Me: “Oh? Why is that?”

*pause until we get all the way down*

Man: “Because I had a good day yesterday.”

Me: “Oh, well that’s good to hear.”

Man: (couldn’t quite make it out but I think…)“Well you have a good day.”

Okay, so the man looked to be 60-70, wearing an awesome hat, and carrying a black bag with what I think were veterans and USA emblems on it. I could barely hear him, which made me a little hesitant about my answers. Otherwise, I probably would have been more social. Anyway, I thought it was a very odd conversation. Also, right before seeing him on the stairs, I had a man stop me while in his car and ask me if I were leaving. I didn’t think parking was that scarce.

I just felt really odd today. Not sure why, but on a closing note, I read this article about PHP today and the closing paragraph of the article was cracking me up so I have to share it.

And always remember, when a person tells you there’s a bug in your script, happily inform them that “my code doesn’t contain bugs, it just randomly generates new features” then quickly fix the problem before they go back to see if it actually is some kind of odd feature. Good luck, and please, never use Microsoft Word to generate HTML.

Well, I need to do some work and then start packing some stuff. Maybe I’ll get an invite to movie night again or maybe not. It’s been a weird day, so I’m not expecting the evening to be any more normal.

And quotes of the day:

J: “Yes, we all got in our pajamas and watched Dirty Dancing.”

M: “I just need those SQL scripts.” hehe umm sure thing
