All in the Family

My Brit pointed out that I’d been slacking on the posts. And so, here goes my life the last few days. Thursday afternoon I found out the Powerbook I wanted to buy was sold to the guy’s family member. I was actually really upset since my paycheck was a lot more than expected, so I definitely had the funds.
After that great news, Mitch & I took off to the $2.2 mil home to photograph the VIP dinner. We got a golf cart ride from our cars to the house, which was amusing. Mitch was like “ooh the wind blowing through our hair” and I added “yes…like a cool summer breeze”. hehe it did make it seem less cold.
For such a huge home, it got very crowded. I got a bit people-claustrophobic. There were apparently important people there but I didn’t really care. I knew the right person to make friends with: the chef. He talked to me a bit and told me to come out to the garage where he was cooking and he’d hook me up with fresh food without the massive crowd in the kitchen.
A couple hours later, I took him up on it. I grabbed Mitch and we headed to the garage. I think this segment of time was the highlight of my evening. He offered me some food I’d never really had before, which scared me a bit, but I took one of each anyway (crab cakes, choc. dipped strawberry, tuna/mango bites, and pesto sauce), as not wanting to offend him. Mitch & I hung out in the laundry room and enjoyed our lil plate selection. We had a nice chat while he marveled at how hearing me say I’d never had a strawberry was the weirdest thing he’d ever heard. Our company pres and his wife found us hiding out in what we called “where the staff eats” and so we had some good laughs with them. Great people. And the food was amazing, too. I gave my compliments to the chef. Overall, it was a nice evening. I love the clients we were there for, which made it all the better.
So yesterday, I stayed home in the morning hoping I’d get some calls made, but no one was in so that was a waste. I went in to work since our family & friends open house was that afternoon. My parents actually came, which was awesome. They seemed to really enjoy all my co-workers. I think they got introduced to pretty much everyone. I could tell they were really amazed by our place and our work. I’m not sure they really knew what to expect from all my mixed ramblings of how much I love it. It was nice for me to hear all my people say such nice things to my family about my work. My mom’s just happy to have faces to go with all the names.
Kurt & Matt made it up from Purdue which was great. I didn’t succeed in networking them as much as planned, but they seemed to really enjoy themselves nevertheless. I’m pretty sure they fell in love with the company, which anymore, is expected. Everyone does. We hung out talking until the pres & ceo flipped off the lights, so we headed to Starbucks and talked there until they shut the lights out on us there, too. It was a really nice evening.
Unfortunately, I didn’t make it back to town in time for Dave’s show with his new band, but he said he’d let me know when another came around. I’m pretty excited because it seems likely we’re gonna be able to do a little work with him. Mitch & I are pretty overwhelmed…well, more Mitch, but I’m still plenty busy, so we’re gonna try to outsource a project’s photography to Dave. It’s gonna be pretty difficult, but I think he’s up for it. If I ever track down PM and get final confirmation of costs, Dave & I are gonna meet up to brainstorm and figure out how to pull this work off.
And currently, I’ve been sitting on my couch, catching up on movies & taped shows, enjoying my one restful day this week with the roomie gone. I’ll avoid a full rant about that, but let me just say, my accent pillows on my couch randomly went MIA this week without notice. Hmm. 12 more days. But the next 2 days are packed full, so expect a full report after that adventure.
Oh typing current track reminded me…I think I’ve officially listened to I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning album over 20 times in the car alone this week. I can get about 2.5 listens each way of the commute. It’s been my sole driving soundtrack. I can’t bring myself to switch to a different CD. I prolly look like I have road rage when I scream along to “they go wi-ild”. Oh well. It keeps me sane on these snow-covered treks.
