A Regular Outdoorsman (I hate gender-friendly words)

Well, I spent last evening with Lazear. We grilled some food but then decided some sticks needed burned as well. We had a monster fire there for a bit. After we were sure the house wouldn’t burn down, we left to get a movie. We got Matchstick Men. Excellent movie btw, because I did not predict the ending. Always good. We had an enjoyable sarcastic checkout guy at Blockbuster. Always good times.
Now people say it’s only fun if you’re the drunken one, but let me tell you, I had a ball last night being the sober one of the pair. He was trying to change the radio station in my car but the seek appeared to be malfunctioning to him. He yelled, “Mindy, make it stop!! Why did it stop at that station for a bit??” I replied, “Well, my car knows what stations I like”. hahaha I was seriously dying. The poor kid didn’t realize I had radio controls on my steering wheel. (hehe. You love me!)

Today I went to Lowe’s for some goods. I saw lots of plants that I loved. However, I realized that despite my good intentions, I would end up forgetting about them and they would die. Instead, I just got a new pot for Ralph. It was so long overdue. He has been looking sickly all year (sorry, Ralph!) He used to be large and proud but he’s been wasting away…why? well, see…Mindy always meant to re-pot him but he’s kind of stayed in his same little terracotta-colored plastic home for the last 4 years. He was a gift from my freshman roommate, so he’s basically been with me my entire college career, thru thick & thin. Well, now he has a lovely new home. I also got some miracle grow potting soil, so he’s livin’ it up right now.
I decided to walk around inside Lowe’s. I think I was there almost an hour, just roaming. I saw this charcoal grill for $30, so I had to buy it. haha so little scrawny me in my capri pants carried this grill with a big bag of charcoal on top around the store. I was very anti-cart today, because I carried the pot and bag of soil around in the nursery. I may have amused some of the people. I’m going to make an assumption that girls just don’t normally buy things like that, let alone carry them. The checkout girl was from my hometown but I’m not sure she recognized me. I was kind of feeling anti-social, though, anyway. I had a lovely walk/chat with a Lowe’s worker earlier on my bubble wrap quest.
Well, I got home and called my mom to wish her a Happy Mother’s day and all. However, before I could do that, I got a call from a random guy who opened with “Happy Mother’s Day!” All I could do was laugh and let the poor guy know he had the wrong number. hehe that had to be embarrassing. Well, I took all of my potting stuff, grill, and toolbox and sat outside on my cement slab/porch. Gos, it was SO nice today. I was in heaven, playing in the dirt and putting stuff together. It was so relaxing. Plus, I had the geese, goslings, and Howard just standing around me watching. Ralph looked so liberated in his new home. I hope he takes well to it. I pulled apart his roots and all that good stuff. I completely forgot to get some gravel for drainage, so I sneaked outside and got some from around the foundation of my apartment building. Heh.
I love my toolkit! I put my grill together like a pro. There was a guy above me talking on his cell, and I think he was privately intrigued by watching me work wonders with my pliers and screwdriver. Ha!

Oh! While I was assembling my grill, I saw 2 white ducks in the lake, and I was like “WTF?! little Howards?!?” I ran to get my binoculars, all the while trying to think if Howard were actually a woman and how he/she’d pulled off kids. When I got a better look, I saw they weren’t little Howard’s (mildly disappointing), so it took like an hour to find what these things were. They’re apparently penciled runner ducks. “Penciled” because these have subtle brown markings. “Runner” because when they stand up, they look like a bowling pin, and they’re apparently seen running a lot. So yes, another kind of bird. I think that makes 8 different waterfowl in my pond. I love living here. I’m ready to have some BBQ’s with my fowl friends…well, as spectators…not participants. Hmm, I will have to be careful about cooking chicken in front of them…
