2006, a Quite Incomplete Review

Honestly, 06 held a few highlights here & there but overall, I don’t foresee looking back on it as the best time of my life. With every perk came some major downers. Had lovely visits to England & DC. Marked stand-up comedy & bowling leagues off my life to-do list. And it did bring me a stranded little dog on my doorstep. I should give that more credit. Oh yeah, and I made my first big move and got a new job. That’s probably worth noting. Oh, and I wrote 71% fewer posts than in 05. That has to earn me some cool points.
However, in terms of music, 06 was pretty fricken incredible. Memborable shows: Andrew Bird, NIN, CMB Homecoming, Margot at Radio, Radio and of course, the recent Black Keys show.
And now, as in all years past, my music lists…(items in past lists are assumed to have carried over. my 2005 mix still gets rocks my world).
Albums with which I was obsessed:
- Wolfmother Wolfmother
- Matisyahu Live at Stubb’s
- Mason Proper There is a Moth in Your Chest
- Paul Brill Harpooner
- Clayton Miller Band Gotta Have Love
- Elizabethtown Soundtrack
- The Apparitions As This is Futuristic
- Princeton A Case of the Emperor’s Clothes
- The Walkmen A Hundred Miles Off
- Andrew Bird The Swimming Hour
- 2006 Midwest Music Sampler
Highlights songs, hopefully not more than my CD-R can hold:
- Blue Lips Eternal Inquiry - Mason Proper
- Can’t C Me - 2Pac
- Since K Got Over Me - The Clientele
- Key of C - Jim Noir
- Warrior - Matisyahu
- Easy to Love - Harry Connick, Jr.
- Let There Be Light (Demo) - I Don’t So Now I Do
- Une Fraction De Seconde - Holden
- Let’s Dance (live) - M. Ward
- Dear Old Greenland - Andrew Bird
- Where to Begin - My Morning Jacket (especially the last minute)
- Wraith Pinned to the Mist and Other Games - Of Montreal
- White Unicorn - Wolfmother (or maybe Mind’s Eye but I do love unicorns :)
- I Live in a Trailer Park - Everything, Now!
- 3 Card Molly [Remix] - C-Rayz Walz
- Summer Dresses - Winechuggers
- Don’t Tell Them - Paul Brill
- Carousel! Carousel! - Mason Proper
Yeah, Mason Proper & Paul Brill were my discoveries of the year. I’m hoping they don’t disappoint me in the future.
And yeah, I guess that’s it. It’s 1:30am and I should probably crash so I can awake in time to see if there’s gonna be a Wii shipment I can tackle. That would make for the perfect ending to 2006. And my last fortune cookie told me to go with my first choice in the coming year, so that could make things interesting.
